Do you like nursing?

Nurses General Nursing

How many time do you get asked this question?

Nobody every asked me if I liked waiting tables when I was a server, if I like being a sales associate when I worked at the mall. I don't hear anyone asking other relatives if they like their jobs...why me?

I know it's silly but I've been asked COUNTLESS times this question and it's like..uggh! What response do people expect?

When I say "yes", they go on about how they couldn't do it and only special people can be nurses and so on. Ya know, I'm not THAT special. I'm not an angel nor am I as pure as my white uniform. I'm just a regular person.

I'm in whiny mode today...sorry!

Lil'mama, you're quite right. Pretty much every alert and oriented patient will ask me that eventually. And, the other question is, "How long have you been a nurse?" I've been thinking about printing up a business card with my response to their query, then I can just hand them the card, rather than go into the explanation for the million'th time.

Hehehe, I wonder what they'd say if my card said: "No, I hate nursing!!" and "I've been a nurse for 3 days!!"

Actually, I think it's just small talk . . . just a way to break the ice . . .

i have lots of reasons why i'm so much happier being a nurse than sitting behind a computer. please elaborate??

now isn't saving a grand worth digging through your own poop?

uh, no!

Specializes in Home Care.
Not if it means putting that gold inlay back in your mouth! :lol2:

Specializes in drug seekers and the incurably insane..

I do like being a nurse. The work in and of itself isn't the problem. It's the morons in the administrative offices whom don't know their ***es from their elbows. I see that we need better staff to resident ratios, better behavior modification programs for the residents, support from management, etc... They see that we need more tacky knick-knacks and other decorations, treating city council people to lunch, more inservices about only God knows what, and ways to enslave the staff on their days off. However, nursing is a good job and pays better than Mickey-D's. *wine
