Do I have to take biology 1 and 2?

I'm applying to my nursing school for fall 2014 but before I apply I want to have my sciences out the way so I won't have to take more pre reqs when I transfer there. The school I'm currently attending is a community college and they're telling me I have to take biology 1 and 2 before I take microbiology and a&p 1 and 2. The nursing school I'm applying to does not require biology just micro and a&p. I guess what I am trying to ask is it a way that I can skip biology and go directly to micro and a&p? If I transfer to a university will they let me do this?

What school did you attend? I'm in memphis as well...

I live in Memphis and attend NWCC. Biology was not a prerequisite for A&P or Micro. I actually took Micro and A&P II in the same semester and then took General Biology I the following semester.

Thanks so much! I'm going to apply to NWCC for the summer! I just need my to take my sciences and I'm done with pre reqs! I'm applying Baptist for fall 2014. Where are you applying?

You may want to contact an advisor at NWCC to ask about the science prerequisites. I do know someone who had to take Principles of Biology I before taking A&P. A student's ACT score may also be a factor for certain science classes. I have completed all of my prerequisites and I am applying to the University of Memphis for Fall 2014.

I also attend NWCC... When I enrolled in A&P, they initially told me I couldn't because I hadn't had Biology. This was Spring Semester of last year. I was only able to take A&P because I had indeed taken Biology, but it was in the mid 80's and was not showing up on the enrollment screen in my profile the day I showed up to enroll. When they checked my transcript, they saw I had it and only then did they let me take the A&P class online....

I suppose each case is different. During the Fall of 2012, I enrolled in A&P I without any previous college level science courses. I then enrolled in A& P II and Microbiology in Spring 2013. For Fall 2013, I took General Biology I.

Who did you have for A&P 1? I had Sylvester online, it was hard... but I got an "A". Thought about doing A&P 2 at the campus to see if it's any easier..

If your school has advisors specifically for nursing students, consult with one. Sad to say, but many student advisors are not that knowledgeable about specific degree plans. I didn't have to take Biology before taking Micro, A&P, etc.

I had Mattox for A&P I, A&P II, and Gen Bio I. She is not easy at all...but she is a GREAT teacher!
