Do I stand a chance? TWU Houston -UT Health Houston

Hello all! I am new to this so I apologize in advance. I am in DESPERATE need of advice. My goal has always been to attend TWU-Houston or UT Health Science-Houston to obtain a BSN. I am currently attending Lonestar College for my pre-reqs and my overall gpa is 3.1 and my grades in science courses are not good. I got a "C" the first time I took biology and then a "B" the second time. I got a "C" in Microbiology and in Statistics. I withdrew the first time from AP 1 and then got a "D" the second time. I feel discouraged but I also don't want to give up. I just don't know if I am being unrealistic. I plan to retake AP 1, Microbiology, and Statistics. However, I would like to hear from any current TWU or UT Health students. Has anyone been in my situation? Will retaking the courses even matter? I just don't know if it will all be for nothing. Did anyone with a similar situation get in? This whole time I was set on becoming a nurse so I don't even know what other degree I could pursue.

I do not know what the admission qualifications are for either school, but I would certainly not give up. Consider making an appointment with an advisor from the school. That is what they do - advise

I was accepted for the Fall 2012 at the UTHSC-H. I attended for that first semester and did not do well. It is a VERY difficult program, and it is imperative that you have a very good understanding of A&P. I cannot stress how important really UNDERSTANDING A&P is. I'm sure that does not apply only to UT.

My advice to you would be to retake those courses and try to apply. DON'T GIVE UP!! I would do some research on instructors to see which ones have the best reviews for actually TEACHING the material, and not just for having the easiest class. The UTHSC does require that your Science GPA is at least a 3.0 for the prereqs and an overall GPA of at least 2.75.

My goal all along has been to attend the UTHSC, and I did, but I did not succeed the first time. I was encouraged by UT to go a different route, and complete an ADN program first and then apply for the RN-BSN program at the UTHSC.

Just remember, sometimes things don't work out exactly how we have planned, but work hard, don't give up, and you will reach your goal!!

Words to live by! I'm not from your area but I definitely started out exactly as you did. But I ended up retaking whatever I didn't do well in. It takes time but it's worth it. Don't give up! Things didn't play out as I planned but if they did I wouldn't be as prepared and motivated as I am now. Good luck!
