Do I really need to spend money?

Published

Is it really necessary that i spend money on a NCLEX prep? Is there a "free" alternative that will work?

Well, thats what i have, the free ATI course my school gave me.

How come a lot of people dont take ATI seriously or just flat out dont consider it? Why do so many just jump to Kaplan or Hurst when ATI is right there at their disposal?

Is ATI a mickey mouse joke of a program? Please, enlighten me before i start wasting my time with this ATI thing.

ATI is a fine program but you must be a student or graduate of an accredited US program. That eliminates all the internationally educated nurses from considering ATI as an option.

Kaplan and Hurst are more commercially advertised. I had ATI in school and thought it was a good prep program. Especially if it doesn't cost you any extra.

For me personally, I never thought ATI rationales were comprehensive and I also felt like they did not provide a good algorithm for attacking questions. For example, in our 3 day ATI NCLEX review after graduation (also free from school), the instructor explained that you need to use ABCs, Maslows etc, but never demonstrated how to apply these to the actual questions, in which order, when etc. So I felt like ATI did not provide me with strategies. I felt like Kaplan did that.
