Nursing Assistants on General Surgery, Ortho, and Medicine Units.BUT they are not there to do all the am/hs care. Individual nurses are responsible for their own patients. The NA helps with the heavier patients that would require two to bath, toilet, etc.
So what do they do if they don't do personal care? Or do they do some or not all? Ours do the bulk of it but we are still expected to do our share.
Not on my floor, but they have then in the out pt cancer center - where they run errands and do VS. Medical day unit, they do the same, as well as monitor low risk pts coming out of simple procedures, mainly scopes.
Dont know of any areas where they do personal care at my hosp.
I like what Fionas hosp does. We have been talking lately that it would be nice so get some help with the care, toileting ect. But I do not like the idea of PSW's doing all of my cares, as that is when I do a lot of my assessments.
Just out of curiosity, does anyone else work in a hospital that employs PSWs? Ours does but I was just wondering how many others do as well.
Many floors in the hospital I work in do, and have had PSW's for a few years. What they do differ from floor to floor sometimes, some floors they have their own assignment and other floors they are there to assist with assignments.
Where i work psws work in so many different areas, from psych, surg, medicine, they are even starting a trial with them in CCU. which personaly i think is a great idea, thoes nurses run their butts off, will be nice to lighten the load for them so they can tend to more urgent care matters.
