Do your hospitals have bed bug problems?

The environmental services associate came out to my desk area and began to spray something on the floor. I looked at her and asked if I thought she was spraying for what I think she was and she replied, "Oh honey, you don't want to be taking these things home with you!":uhoh3::no::banghead:

There are bed bug problems all over here (as in the region).

What about your hospitals/clinicals/etc....?

What is your management doing to help protect everything and prevent the spread? I think everyone is working really hard to try and keep it from spreading, its just really hard to control.

i know... i know... i'm a b...a...d girl!:uhoh3: after someone mentioned them in another post though, i simply

had to check them out. that 8 or 9 year old still lives deep within, i guess.:D

Maybe this is the one...

You know, everyone else is worried about HIV, Vanco-resistant super-bugs, Swine flu, Bird flu, global warming, water supply depletion, diabetes, saturated fat, mercury, etc...

And low-and-behold it was the little ol' bedbug.

Ah, can you imagine? Human civilization taken down by a lowly insect....tsk,tsk,tsk.

that was diabolical.

just read an article that they had to shut down the empire state building due to a bed bug infestation. think of all the tourists dragging home those little souvenirs. i think they may just have to shut down the whole city, throw a tarp over it, and put it on isolation precautions.

i did not sleep well last night.

I've seen cockroaches in facilities. I suppose their little cousins would be welcome too.

NYC has been having a bed bug "crisis" for a few years now, but is rapidly reaching epidemic proportions.

Several high end clothing stores, hotels catering to both high, middle and low, movies, subway and buses, in short any place a human could have been. From Park Avenue to the Bowery, the little critters are everywhere.

Things have become so bad that NYC (or is it the entire state?), recently passed a law that states sellers of real estate and their broker must tell those looking at a home/apartment if the place has ever been treated for bed bugs.

While the increase and ease in worldwide travel may explain some of this, I personally think it has allot to do with persons picking up furniture (including mattresses, beds, sofas, etc), off the street and bringing them home. Then there is the popular "thrift store" mania, where persons not only purchase second had clothing, but furniture as well.

My mother *never* allowed us to bring anything into her house "off the street". You never know where it's been she would say.
