Do you get taken seriously as a Chamberlain College Grad ?

Published

Hello all, I am currently 19 years old going through the application process at Chamberlain College here in Arizona. I am very confident in my ability to get the program completed. I know I can over come the outrageous price tag the BSN has labeled on it as well with help from FAFSA, grants , and scholarships. However my biggest fear is committing myself to 3 years and almost 80,000 dollars in debt for nothing. I have seen several reviews that this school is horrible but I have also heard the school is amazing and worth the money. I have friends who also have completed vocational and technical programs and have great jobs in other fields. Ultimately I want to know when you leave this school with your Bachelor degree of science in nursing will a hospital consider me a real nurse, will i look like a joke, will they toss my application at the sight of technical school labeled on my resume or is it worth the time and money in the end. All feedback is welcomed.

At my hospital, "pay to play" programs don't have a great reputation. However, I don't think they'd just throw your application out the window either. To give you some perspective, I was told that when I finish my ADN program, I will be considered a more attractive applicant here than a BSN from Keiser University or Chamberlain. However, that is just my workplace. I would ask around the area where you're at to see if they care too much or not.

I'm in Chicago. Here chamberlain is an excellent school that produces very prepared nurses.

Okay, that did help me out a lot. Thank you for your quick response to my post too.

That is definitely great news to hear. I think it also makes a bit of an impact on my decision to go here and fulfill my dreams. I appreciate the response.

Chamberlain grad here. Found a job within a month of taking my boards. So did my classmates.

Why does anyone have any interest in going to Chamberlain (or the other proprietary schools), when you can get a good nursing education at a fraction of the price somewhere else, at some school that won't raise any eyebrows over your career? I just don't get that.

I think people may not be aware that you can get a good nursing education at a community college, or they just want to get a BSN as fast as they can, figuring they can get a loan for the insane prices those schools demand.

In this area, it's extremely competitive to get into nursing school. Some of the community colleges have waiting lists that are years long. Chamberlain has fairly easy acceptance standards and several enrollment dates throughout the year. Also, ADN nurses aren't having an easy time finding jobs here. Chamberlain program has definite perks.

You are so young!

Why don't you go off and have the traditional college experience?

I know of several colleges that you can get your degree, dorm housing, and meal plan for less than 80k.

You have so many other options...
