Do they count LPN experience re: pay?

Hi,

Does anywhere in AZ (Tuson, Mesa, east valley area) count the years as an LPN as experience?

I will be graduating ASN soon but have been an LPN for 18 years.

Just wondered if employers look at that aspect re: pay.

We plan on moving there from Indiana when I am done.

Also, is there much call for school nurse positions there and what is the pay range for that position?

i don't know about az but i can tell you that i was an lpn for 23 years prior to getting my asn. i was given credit for 9 months out of every year that i was an lpn. so i started out as a new asn grad with 17+ years experience and instead of making $18/hr as a new grad i started at $26/hr.

I have friend who was an LPN for several years, I believe when she started her ADN program she made $26 an hour. Then when she graduated her program her job bumped her to $33. That's typically more than new grad RN pay at the hospitals. Im sure every one has a different experience....How have you liked being an LPN?

I have liked it but as I get older, the RN has much more employment opportunities and diversions.....like a desk job! :)

Its great to know that all my years of being an LPN will count towards a better wage once I grauate as ASN.

arizona is growing in leaps and bounds and because of this there are new schools popping up every where and I know for a fact that the three schools opening up in our tiny town next school year all need school nurses. About pay I can not say but i think the school nurse is near the lower part of the pay scale. at least in my town "city"

True about the pay scale, as most of the school districts out here will hire an LPN as well. I have a friend who wanted to work the schedule of a school nurse as to stay in the same hours as her kids schedules. She took a huge pay cut. But for her it was worth it!

This is funny cuz I was just watching the news and there was a big thing about the school nurse shortage in the valley. Apparently schools are starting to hire cna, lpn, paramedics, pretty much anyone to fill the positions and theres an upset as to whether or not anyone but an RN should be considered qualified enough to fill the school nurse spots. So it looks like you shouldnt have a problem there. Im sure you could find the story on the FOX 10 news website if your interested. Good Luck to you.

I can tell you a little bit about school nursing here. My aunt's been a school nurse for 30+ years, is two years away from retirement from a school in 'downtown' Phoenix where she is literally the only medical help these children receive, and she was just laid off due to funding. So now this large, elementary school, has no nurse. And my aunt who has gotten to know the kids and their families (for the past 20+ years) and who is trusted by these families, has to find work somewhere else two years before retirement.

The news may be running stories that there is a shortage of school nurses, but it's more like there's a shortage of money for school nurses.

Luckily I'm fortunate enough to send my kids to a charter school where there are TWO nurses. My son has asthma and I couldn't imagine what would happen if he had an attack at school and there was no nurse to take care of him.
