other reasons like just to vent about nursing school?I come here for motivation. I have been lurking on allnurses for the past two years. It helped motivated me to complete my pre reqs & do well. In real life, everybody is so discouraging, even some of the pre nursing students that I encounter. When I read about how other members on here are doing well in their nursing classes it motivates me to do well and I stop getting anxeity about not succeeding when I get into nursing school. Its refreshing from all the "its so hard you may not make it through" stories.

When I joined allnurses, I was a "pre-nursing" student, up until a few weeks ago when I got accepted into my ABSN program. It feels good that there were many who shared in my same joy. It's refreshing to know there are so many others out there who will be taking this new journey with me. We'll have some ups and downs and we share with each other and encourage each other to keep going.
Of course there are some negative threads on here, whose purpose is to discourage, but I've learned not to give those threads any acknowledgment. I usually recommend this site to others.

i come here for reference and mainly motivation. like addison said above..its really nice to know there are other people in the same boat as you. in school classmates can bs you and say they have a 99 or 100% on every test. and if you didnt get the same u feel kinda crappy. but online... you can come on here and say ..man....i got an 86 i feel like crap and you wont get beat up over it but lifted up :)

I agree there can be the odd thread with discouraging advice, etc, but that's bound to happen on any site! For the most part I have found this community to be rather helpful to all of its members, it's a great learning resource. I feel comfortable asking questions or for tips, knowing (for the most part!) i'm not going to be attacked or made fun of.
I'm on other forums where members are not as friendly, or people are just there to put others down. Last week one lady was trying to get in a debate with me about how many mL are in 1 dram when another member was asking to compare product sizes of something. She tried to made me feel as if my opinions were not important and didn't matter, and because she worked in a packing plant, she was more educated than me on the matter. Even after I told her I was a nursing student and knew my basic conversions, she still tried to tell me that i'm inferior.
I LOVE that nurses are able to give advice and offer suggestions to us nursing students, and don't treat us as if we are a lesser person or inferior. Everyone is in a student position at some point. It's also a great place to go to when you're feeling discouraged about school, you know there others are going through the exact same thing, or others who have been through it and can offer you some encouragement; it gets better!!

I come here for all sorts of reasons, to vent, to motivate, to learn, to talk with others that know what it's like, all kinds of reasons.

I think allnurses.com is a great learning tool. I love looking through the specialty forums to find out what prison nurses gripe about, for example. There is a ton of practical advice too, like what to wear under white scrubs. Mostly I like reading about other people's experiences as nursing students--since I'm in med-surg clinicals I like threads about that. The negative threads I try to avoid, because like you all have mentioned, it's easy to find that at school.

Motivation and HELP. The Med Math thread alone is worth coming back here for over and over and over again.
