Do Cheaters Annoy You?

Published

Have to VENT!!! I had a lab Micro quiz today that I studied very well for, I feel I did very well on it. Yet, despite my efforts, after I finished my quiz I happened to turn around and see two of my classmates whispering to one another the answers, not to mention both were looking across the table at other students papers!! I could also hear them whispering behind me different answers while I was taking my quiz and my professor did not catch them at all. Even another student saw what I had saw and was also a little ticked because they have done this more than once. I don't believe in snitching on grown people and I know it will not benefit them in the end, but I still irks me that they get away with it.

Anyone else have similar feelings or experiences? Should I tell my professor that I have seen people cheating but not give her the exact name or faces? I just had to get that off my chest.

Don't even get me started on this. There is a whole row of losers in my Mircro class that do this. The 'best' part, there ring leader is the son of one of the local doctors. The catch is that someone already tried to bring this to the attention of our 'instructor' but because he's friends with cheater-pant's dad, he tried to turn it around on her. So I'm praying to get better than a 'C' and they're bragging about their 'A'. I'll take my hard earned C, at least I can sleep at night. Oh, and I got accepted into NS, they didn't. :nurse:

Yes, cheaters annoy me! :nono: I am not busting my butt until 3am (on top of the weeks that I've been studying) to study for a class and then let someone copy answers. And I don't care who notices me covering up my answers. If you didn't have time to study TOUGH! I have two kids and a family, too!

And thinking that it will hurt them down the road doesn't make me feel any better, it still makes me mad! Not to mention if they get a better grade than you b/c they cheat (some people have lab reports, etc from the previous semesters)

On the other hand, there is a girl in both of my classes, we do our homework, labs etc. at home then compare once we get to school. I thinks that is fine b/c we both did the work ourselves.

But on test... You are on your own!

:banghead: Okay, I'm finished with my rant! I will move on now!

Cheaters don't ANNOY me, they scare me!

If someone is willing to cheat on an exam, don't you think than as nurses (if they make it), they won't have any problems 'cheating' on assessments, 'cheating' on their charting, etc.

Heaven forbid they ever make a med error, do you really think they are going to be honest about it?

Yup, that scares me. What if they are mine or my family's nurse someday?

No thanks

I guess I probably wouldn't say anything about cheaters unless I caught someone cheating off of me. Then, GAME ON!

I have an instructor in my A&P class that has us write FAIR/UNFAIR on our exams. If someone has been cheating, from us or we notice it from somewhere else, we circle unfair...that makes her more watchful for future tests. I do love that option. She won't even ask you personally who you saw do it...that way you can tell her to be on the lookout without saying a word.

Brilliant.

Cheaters don't bother me. You do what you have to to get where you want to be. Some will take more risk than others and some will cut more corners than others. If in fact these guys do not learn the required material, it will catch up with them, but from my limited life experience it generally does not.

IMO, let others do what they want. If it does not affect you then let it be. And if you want to snitch, that's fine too.

I think it's really unfair when people cheat in general, but especially in their prereqs. Those are the classes that are used to calculate the GPA that admittance is based on. What good does it do to someone to know that "it will catch up with them in the end" when they have to wait another year to get into the program while the cheaters got in already. Sure they may fail before the year is up, but they still took a spot away from a deserving student.

Luckily I am not aware of anyone cheating in many of my clases, but I think I would have to say something if I knew someone was.

Good for you!!! Congrats!!! Cheater's never prosper!

I do not even notice them, so, no, they don't bother me. Other people's behavior, usually, don't affect me much.

It scares me too, since some of them may just manage to squeak in on the NCLEX. Who here would want a nurse to care for them who cheated their way through school?

Cheaters worry me. I always figure that they made to the floor and are taking all the shortcuts. Yes I have met a few of them, not sure how to do the EKG, do not do the admit that came in on their shift, didn't assess my mom's IV - no pain meds for her for a little while.

I do think it is the job of the instructor to keep their eyes open. My nursing instructor had eyes in the back of her head and could read your mind. We would not have dared to cheat. Thank you Kathy for your mentoring.

Cheaters bother me. I took my prerequisites at a school that got busted for a grade changing scandal. Now I worked hard for my grades and had no idea that was going on, but even though I got into the nursing schools I applied to, I still cringe at the damage to the schools reputation and all those people who honestly earned their grades. The school that I was accepted to was even quoted as saying they would need to look closely at the students they accepted from that college. If I was aware of obvious cheating, I would report it because the academic honesty policy requires me to. I do agree that the cheaters will likely not be doing themselves any favors. Nursing school is hard and you need to know your stuff, you cannot cheat your way through nursing school. Maybe there is a way you can drop a note anonymously to the instructor? It may make them more vigilant especially if you have them looking at the particular cheaters during the next exam.
