Do you answer your phone on your day off?

It seems like whenever i have a scheduled day off...my phone is ringing. "Can you come in and help out..."

"We are kind of in a bind today, need someone for PM shift.." I really just wish for a day, where i can relax and not be bothered by work!! So I am curious what others do, Do you answer your phone on your day off? I tend to feel guilty when i see who's calling, and don't answer!

Hate calls like this. But unfortunately we have to pick it up in Singapore if not verbal warnings will be given. We have a call-tree exercise incase of national crisis we have to be activated immediately so any call from the hospital could be the exercise ANYDAY without warning, so we gotta pick it up.

Isn't this just another form of blackmail??

Yeah kinda so we have to pick it up. But learn to say no, that's the point if you don't want to work!

I answer the phone.

If they ask, I either say no or tell them what I can offer.

My employer must think I'm a lush because everytime they call I tell them I've been drinking. It immediately stops all phone calls from them for the rest of the day. If I didn't tell them that, they would just keep on calling until they have laid enough of a guilt trip that I will relent and go in.

I actually did get a call when I was drinking, and I told them as such. I also once received a call as I was driving down a road in SW Virginia (not exactly close to where I work).

When in doubt, the three things that work are drinking, driving (far away) and diarrhea!
