Do you think it's okay to wear a tongue-ring to work as a nurse, or other direct patient services aspect?

I had my tongue pierced - in the past I have since taken it out since every time you become sick it seems to become really annoying...

I wouldnt care if someone had one as long as the barbell wasnt long - when you first get it pierced it is about a one-inch barbell (depending on the person) to allow for swelling and then you can move down at about two weeks to a smaller one and then an even smaller one later on...

When I finally took mine out my barbell was very short - I want to say around a half inch... I would have to search for it and measure it tho...

I dont think people should have (or keep) a huge clanking barbell in their mouths for work - it does sort of slosh around and get in the way of speech...

I have had my tongue pierced for 6 yrs with no complications or impeded speech. I have never taken it out and have known people for years and they don't know I have it. It is not large and I don't play with it. I think it is acceptable.

lol...mine was pierced with a 10 gauge...and no, it didn't hurt. My belly button hurt much worse! I have had my tongue, nose, belly button, and a few other areas pierced. They have all been removed except my belly button. I loved my nasal piercing (it was a tiny diamond stud in my nostil) but didn't want it to affect my getting a job so out it came before my interview. The tongue piercing was taken out when I heard from not one, not two, but three different dentists how damaging they are to your teeth. My sister had the healthiest, strongest teeth until she got her tongue pierced. A year after getting it done, she ended up with 12 cavities in her mouth! But of course, she still has the damn thing in...........

Sure- I can't see that it interferes with a co-worker's professionalism.

Now, if you'd asked if I'd want to be intimately kissed by someone with such piercings? YECCH!

I have my tongue pierced and I'm quite frankly bored with it and wanting to take it out, is there anything I should be careful of? Like can it still get infected after I take it out? And how long does it take for it to close up?

How long did it take for your tongue ring to close up?, or did it ever? I'm curious because I want to remove mine but I'm scared...

It closed up within a few days. It's been several years and you can't really even see where it was originally at anymore.

I think it is trashy.

When I see body piercing and/or tatoos it makes me think of a biker chic.

It's one thing to think that something is trashy, but it's another to think some people are because of what they choose to put on their own bodies. :nono:
