Why do people believe that nurses do not save lives and that only doctors save lives. How do nurses NOT save lives?
1. The media and most medical shows portray nurses as subordinate sidekicks while the doctors jump in and do everything. I had to laugh when I watched an episode of House where the doc was giving an enema. That would not happen in real life.2. Doctors, as a professional group, are represented by the powerful AMA. Their public image is fine-tuned and information is released to the public about how important they are. Nurses lack this powerful representation. No one is telling the public how important we are.
The World According House (the TV show), would have the general public believe that that UA was personally run to the lab by the MD; who then ran the tests; who then personally shuttled the patient to imaging where they prepped and performed (and interpreted) the CT; and then gathered the patient up and personally stuck in that PEG tube just before personally inserting an AV shunt and hooking the patient up to dialysis while hacking off some flesh for a histological exam that they themselves performed while on break. Oh yes, they ran and interpreted the histological report, too.
Makes me barf.

This definitely shows that nurses truly save lives and do more than doctors... awesome. I feel encouraged
Just my 2 cents but I have to wonder if nurses don't do themselves a disservice by running to mngt about every single thing that comes up on a shift instead of communicating directly, supporting each other, and getting behind each other a little more. Doctors seem to have a code where they don't toss each other under the bus every five seconds (could be wrong, but it seems that way). Maybe nurses would get more respect from others if they collaborated with each other and respected each other a little more. Maybe that would also give them a little more power. I dunno. Just a thought.

Yep. That sounds like most of us. We're all in it for the drugs and sex.
