Hi :nurse:s!
Can everyone tell me what you do to disinfect the beds in your office?
Especially the regular beds (not the bench kind) with mattress, bottom and top sheets
with comforters. I try to wash them when they are soiled or during the holidays
and I spray the bed with "Resheshu" (kind of like febreze combined with disinfectant sold in Japan)
after each student use but I don't know if that is enough?
I'm planning on getting some disposable pillow cases.
What do you all do at your school?

Good question! I will follow this topic. :) In our school we use lysol disinfectant spray after each student. The product can be used in fabrics, mattresses, pillows, etc. Here's the link -

We usually have it washed if:
1. It had been constantly used for a long period of time.
2. It looks dirty.
3. A student with communicable disease used it.
4. It was soiled by blood, vomit, etc.
5. A student who is sweating profusely used it.

I also have a vinyl cot that has a plastic cover on it. I wipe down with a sani-clloth between students. I do have a blanket but only use it if the student requests or I have a little one shivering with a high fever, but i'm also lucky enough to have a washing machine in my school.

My clinic has a vinyl covered cot. I use disposible pillow cases and a roll of examining table paper. I disinfect the cot with Clorox wipes after each use. If I had a bed with a real mattress I believe I'd put a plastic cover on that baby and dispense with the sheets and comforter (really? you have a comforter in there?) I have some fleece throws that I can use for kids who are really sick or feverish. I don't have many students who come in that sick, maybe once or twice a week, so I just take the blankies home and wash them myself.
Thank you all for your replies!!
I would rather have vinyl cots but I have limited budget so
I have to work with what I have
We don't have a washer so I have to take it home (in a 15 minutes train ride) or have them dry cleaned (which is not cost effeicient).
Do you all think that it's worth it to replace my 2 beds and get vinyl cots?

I would just buy two zippered vinyl mattress covers and a few rolls of table paper. Much less expensive than buying cots.
I agree - the vinyl cots start at around $230.00 here in the us - don't know the cost in japan but id guess similar. Unless you have budget money to burn just get some zip on covers - they are about 20 bucks a piece for good ones.
Thank you! I will look into it :)

Hi,
I'm having d same prob as u. I brought the sheets home to wash and wipe the beds with antiseptic wipes. But the matresses and pillows are covered with plastic so I just have to wiped them off with wipes too!!
