Discouraged NP Student - Follow Me Through Grad School Episode 110

Being overwhelmed and overworked in NP school cause many students to question their capabilities and second-guess if they made the right decision to go to graduate school. Feelings of discouragement are not uncommon in graduate school. FNP programs challenge students not as a means of punishment (though I have questioned this in the past), but as a way to promote growth. NP, MSN, CRNA, and DNP programs provide students with the tools necessary to potentially save a patients' life, and to contribute to medical knowledge and wisdom. The truth is life doesn't happen in comfort zones. It may not seem like it now but being uncomfortable in grad school is actually a good thing! Today's challenges are meant to prepare you for tomorrow's triumphs.

This week I go over how I battle my feelings of discouragement. Some highlight include

  1. My cousin sitting for the ACNP certification exam for the second time. Will she pass or fail?
  2. What helps me fend off/deal with feelings of discouragement

You are too positive to fail. You can care for me when you graduate!

School seems like 100 years ago - you just brought it all back in a rush.

Best of luck! You're gonna be fabo!

Hang in there and push forward. Your mind can handle a lot more than you think. Don't compare yourself to anyone else. I am the only person in my family with an RN degree (BSN). I had no family to consult with and some were telling me to quit school when I struggled with it earlier on. Good thing I didn't listen.

Thanks so much for the vote of confidence! I would consider it an honor to take care of you, : )

Not comparing yourself to others is such GREAT advice. Although you may reach the same destination as someone else, the path you took to get there may look vastly different! I have to remind myself of that to help remain sane, haha. Also, thank goodness you remained steadfast and obtained your BSN degree! People don't understand that nursing school is intellectually, emotionally and physically rigorous. It takes a lot of strength, determination, sweat and tears to make it! Thanks so much for commenting and sharing such sage advice!
