The only job I can seem to land right now is at a snf. took the nclex over a month ago and honestly did not think it would be this hard. I even had a second intervew and felt really good about the first one, but got had a bad feeling about the second. I have heard some say that taking my first job at the snf is going to screw me in the future, and honestly its not the job I want, but i feel like I am becoming less desirable as the days go by, since I actually graduated last year. I really feel like interviews are not a good indicator of who we really are, and it would be nice if someone would just give me a chance!!! ughhhh. I mean what is it they really want to hear thats gonna get you hired??

Yay congrats to you!!!

Side note- CNA ?: If I was asked that question or if the scenario happened at work... first I would assess my patient (machines tell you all kinds of stuff, BUT your eyes, ears and overall physical presence tells you SO much more)

Depending on findings would be dealt with accordingly. The CNA told you, didn't or whatever comes of that, maybe teaching needs to be done yada yada, that can be dealt with at a later date.

Most IMPORTANTLY-- The vitals, or anything else delegated to someone else, is ULTIMATELY YOUR responsibility and whether the vitals (in this instant) was or wasnt communicated, entered correctly, or whatever else, it is your job to know 1. They were done 2. they were entered, 3.

they were correct 4. You seen them ( hopefully sooner than 2 hours after) and therefore acknowledge there unto. Any interventions necessary where approached AND documented. I could be wrong, but I bet they was looking for something along those lines with that type of hypothetical situation.

Like others here have mentioned - I suggest you look into the services of an Interview coach. One of the best things I did for myself 30 years ago was attend a 3 day seminar on job hunting skills offered by my Community College and taught by the hiring manager of a fortune 500 company. It covered the basics of how to write an eye-catching resume, how to dress and prepare for an interview, How to answer interview questions and how to appropriately follow up after an interview.

Often times an employer is looking for specific qualities in a prospective employee that go beyond educational qualifications. They may be focused on your attention to detail, ability to switch gears during a conversation etc... At times it's all about what kind of day that employer is having at the time of the interview. In a career field with many qualified candidates they are looking for stand-out features that separate you from the herd of applicants.

If you are currently working in a snf - focus on gaining and mastering any new skills you can. Do CEUs in wound care, Alzhiemer's , Nutrition etc. Emphasize when asked that the job is all about being a part of a care team. Show you know how to prioritize care in a sensible way. Show you know how to sensitively address even the most annoying family member or physician. Join a professional practice organization such as the National Gerontological Nurses Assoc. This will how you have an interest is broadening your knowledge base.

Stay positive when asked about your current job or past. If you background comes up in say a second interview say something about youthful indiscretion and how much you learned and have grown from the experience and most importantly that that is all behind you now.

I am including some links here to some interviewing websites that might help you.

Good luck.
