"After years of controversy and making parents mistrust vaccines, along with collecting $674,000 from lawyers who would benefit from suing vaccine makers, it was discovered he had made the whole thing up. The Lancet publicly apologized and reported that further investigation led to the discovery that he had fabricated everything.

In the intervening years, millions have been spent on studying this further to see if there was anything that could connect autism and vaccines. This is what they found."

16 years ago, a doctor published a study. It was completely made up, and it made us all sicker.

There are still approximately 16 deaths per hour from measles world-wide. WHO | Measles

The only thing that keeps measles from being an epidemic in the U.S. is herd immunity from mass vaccination.

BostonFNP and wtbcrna continue to school 'em every time. And without the nasty tone used by the anti-vaxxers. You guys have a lot more patience than I.

Yes, because this is such a productive and classy comment. I'm voicing genuine concerns and trying to foster a dialogue wherein I may broaden my views and you chime in from the peanut gallery with this holier-than-thou tripe. Stay classy, San Diego.

BostonFNP, thanks for the thoughtful response. I'll try to answer back to some of your points this weekend. Don't hold your breath on my providing any citations as most of my research time is focused on areas that directly affect my daughter, specifically seizures and apraxia at the moment (moment being the last 7 years).

That said, I do owe you a response to what clearly has taken you a bit of time and effort. Again, this is about dialogue/discussion. I understand the science (not so much all the statistical analysis) and I also recognize there are some legitimate concerns voiced as well. Every doc (or RN) on this board can pooh-pooh anecdotes, but I know what I witnessed, and for that reason will always have my doubts. As I've said in my previous discussions on this subject, I get the flu shot every year as mandated as a part of my employment (civil liberties notwithstanding, another time), and my children are both fully vaccinated. Still doesn't stop some of the cranks on here from acting, well, like cranks. Again, thanks for the great response.

My post was not addressed to you but to two other posters to give them kudos for their incredible patience and amazing dedication to putting out good information based on and supported by peer reviewed and properly conducted research vs.anecdotal, anti-science, blog supported "tripe." NO APOLOGIES.

And since I admitted they were far better than I, it cannot possibly be "holier than thou." They are definitely holier than moi.

Nurseworks you are not actually voicing legitimate concerns about vaccines. You have voiced conspiracy theories which we have debunked with numerous scientific studies. The only thing we can sit here debate all day is the ethics of capitalism and vaccines.Every parent has concerns. Don't you think we all worry that no matter how safe something is that our child might be the one child with somekind of rare reaction that could cause his or her death from a vaccine or any other medication?. I still don't like my grown children to ride in cars with someone else. We all worry about our children. I think most of us realize some of those concerns are rational and while other concerns are just irrational.

I am sure by now everyone has read the PNAS study, largely funded by SafeMinds.

Anyone think this will end the debate on autism and thimerosal-containing vaccines?

This is a belief system so I am not sure this myth will ever fully go away.

I agree -- no amount of legitimate research will ever convince the "true believers."

The most important thing is that other people are constantly countering the misinformation given by misinformed people and anti-vaxers.

Just got my flu shot and lived to tell the tale!

My arm is tingling and I'm feeling like a 3rd eye is growing out of my forehead...

I edumacated all the unit secretaries today when our Flu Shot Van showed up at the HS.

To help people understand the difference between the mercuries, I tell them that drinking alcohol in reasonable amounts is considered safe. However, they need to make sure they drink ethanol and not methanol. In small amounts, one will probably make you blind if it doesn't kill you.
