Direct Entry MSN Programs 2013

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Anyone on here applying to direct entry MSN programs that begin in summer or fall of 2013? I think I have finalized my list of programs to apply to, and I am beginning to get everything together to start applying this summer/early fall (I know this is rather early, but I'm a bit anxious and I was wondering if there was anyone else on this board who is just as excited as me!). I am pretty certain that I will be applying to UPenn, Yale, Johns Hopkins, Northeastern, University of Massachusetts, Boston College, Columbia, Vanderbilt, and Marquette. I am also applying to a few accelerated BSN programs in my state (Florida) - UCF and UF, for sure. I have all of my prerequisite courses completed, and currently have a 3.76, but my BS is still in progress and I have to retake the GRE this summer. I look forward to hearing from other people!

yayyy! What specialty?? I'm doing ANP

Psych/mental health!

Hey everyone! I'm going to be in the NMW track at this fall! I was deciding between there and Columbia, but from why I'm hearing, they just don't compare. I was not 100% certain either way (closer to 65%) , but Vandy feels like a better fit. Congrats to you all! You will end up in the right places.

Hey guys! So since I started this thread, I wanted to come follow up and see how everyone was doing and what their decisions were! Here's what I want to know: where you applied, where you interviewed, where you got in, and what school you ultimately decided on, and why. If you aren't sure, you can hold off on posting, or you can post again later on (this is what I'm going to do), but I'm really interested to see! It's been so fun following your journeys and seeing where we've all ended up since the very beginning of this thread! I'm so excited to call you all my colleagues and it's cool to see where everyone is headed.

Where I applied: Johns Hopkins, Marquette, Penn, Duke, NYU

Where I interviewed: Johns Hopkins, Penn, Duke

Where I got in: So far... Johns Hopkins, Marquette, and wait listed at Penn. Waiting to hear from Duke and NYU!

What school I ultimately decided on: Still waiting to hear back from 2 places, but I'm thinking it'll come between Hopkins and Duke :) I loved Duke and the program seems to be a perfect fit for me, and I love the loan repayment option at Duke Hospital. There's a lot of growth in the Durham area as well, especially with Duke building their new hospital dedicated to surgery only. Hopkins is an awesome program, offers a BSN, and also has a ton of opportunities with their amazing hospitals in the area, and I think it would be a good fit for me as well.

I'll post again later when I have finalized my decision :)

Good idea! I hope more people reply! I am very curious about where everyone ends up. We've been posting here together for a while. We're like pre-nursing family! :nurse:

Where I applied:

UVA (CNL), MGH (ABSN because the direct entry one gets you your BSN at the END of the program), Columbia, Hopkins, and Duke

Where I interviewed:

All of them (except MGH doesn't interview for the ABSN and Columbia doesn't interview at all)

Where I got in:

So far all of them! Still waiting on Duke

What school I ultimately decided on:

I think UVA has an AMAZING program but I decided it would be better and quicker for me to get a BSN.

MGH was always a safety. I don't like that they have online classes and Boston is over-saturated with nursing schools and students looking for jobs.

Visiting Columbia made me realize I did not want to attend. And NYC is over-saturated with nursing schools and students looking for jobs.

It's between Duke and JHU. I love the small size of Duke (only 70 students) and it's been my favorite for a while. I was surprised I got into JHU and wasn't expecting it. I applied for summer, but I am now realizing fall works better with my schedule. And then there are other things to consider such as how scary I ultimately decide Baltimore is and how much money both schools offer. I already got into the Masters portion at JHU, but I would have to reapply for the master's at Duke. Although Duke has the exact master's I want (acute pnp vs critical care pediatric CNS at JHU). So maybe come Monday I'll have lots of decisions to make.

I only applied to Ohio State for CNL and got in. There wasn't an interview, however I did attend the open house that had break out sessions with each focus where I was able to talk with the head of the CNL program. From what I've been able to figure out, there seems to be about 85 grad entry students spread throughout the specialties and my advisor mentioned that there's 6-8 CNL students so the small group is a plus (compared to about 35 or so in FNP). I'll have a better idea of the breakdown in May when we have our orientation.

Specializes in Clinical Nurse Leader.

I applied to UVA (CNL) and thats it! I got in and start May 20!! I can't wait. If I had more flexibility I would of applied JHU and DUKE. I love Baltimore.

Does anyone know when Northeastern University's decisions are released?

Does anyone know when Northeastern University's decisions are released?

They already contacted those accepted into the traditional program and those accepted into the hybrid spring program, they just started contacting those accepted for the fall hybrid program!

when i called northeastern this week, they told me the latest we would know is mid to late april, because they are doing admissions in rounds. not sure if that was a guise for a rejection tho :(
