Direct Entry MSN 2020 at Columbia University

Updated:   Published

Hello Everyone, The applications for June 2020 at Columbia University has now opened. I haven't seen any new threads for this year so I wanted to start one. I am in the process of applying and half way done! References already sent their recommendations!! and an upside to this year is that Columbia University is no longer requiring the GRE. SO I am pretty happy about that!!

Good Luck!

Hang in there. Don’t lose hope. You got this!

I'm taking SCB204 with Prof Kendall right now in the 6 week session (midterm Wednesday, ugh)

I agree - I think it will be difficult to get a first job, especially with LGA ADN in a field that is pretty much requiring BSNs minimum now. I also do not like how the SUNY/CUNY schools have such stringent pre-reqs (must be in person, and have to complete like 2 pre-req courses to even take a pre-req for application lol, ie: org chem is required for hunter, but to take org chem you need to take gen chem 1 and 2 first. who has 3 semesters of time to do that unless you're 18-20 years old!!)

I believe the clinical locations during the actual program will be how you get your foot in the door, but if LGA doesn't have any partnerships with the top hospitals in NYC then it could be difficult to even have your resume looked at unless you have another in.

Oh hey! I visited your lab section the other Friday haha. I have my AP2 midterm this week too. Guess I don’t have to stress it!

Sweet!! And hopefully! I'm just honored that they put me in one in the first place. They didn't mention a number, just that I'm on it so fingers crossed!!

For those of you wondering if the cost of Columbia and the DNP is worth it. I genuinely want to tell you to look into your personal goals and what you want your career to look like. With a DNP your opportunities in nursing are limitless. I don’t know about other specialties but for psych in New York you’re looking at about 150k. You can also teach and make some good money on the side. My advisor is a past student from Columbia and she told me if you truly take advantage of the school your possibilities could be limitless. It’s expensive I know so I’m also nervous as I have to consider other schools right now. But Consider nurse corps and other solid scholarship offers. This is a once in a lofe time opportunity for us. we owe it to ourselves to make it count!

Nursecorps! ?? i just wish they made the scholarship available to ppl in the MDE program

Guys - I got in to the MDE/DNP in ACNP. Is there a facebook group for us to join?

It doesn’t hurt to ask and apply regardless. Plus something really big to remember if you’re already accepted it means your shot paid off. Once you enroll in an Accelerated BSN or asn program. Your prospects take a whole different turn. You Just may not be as competitive anymore. Nursing gpa is totally different from undergrad gpa. Carpe diem

The school will most likely create the fb group for you all to get to know one another and current students!
