Direct Entry MSN 2020 at Columbia University

Updated:   Published

Hello Everyone, The applications for June 2020 at Columbia University has now opened. I haven't seen any new threads for this year so I wanted to start one. I am in the process of applying and half way done! References already sent their recommendations!! and an upside to this year is that Columbia University is no longer requiring the GRE. SO I am pretty happy about that!!

Good Luck!

The school will most likely create the fb group for you all to get to know one another and current students!

Would this be before student admitted day? I'm hoping to coordinate with other ppl in regards to travel/housing for that day.

Yes generally they do this within the first few days after sending acceptances.

I just got into the MSN program! I am so excited. Still waiting to hear back from other schools because the location is not the top choice for me. Does anyone have any information or feedback regarding the program? I know it is only 15 months where others are often longer.

Awesome, thank you!

Hey everyone! My name is Amanda. I just got accepted to the direct entry program at Columbia. I know online, the start date says June 2020 but I was wondering would anyone happen to know the exact day it begins? Or by June 2020 they mean June 1st 2020 is the official start date? Lol

For those of you wondering if the cost of Columbia and the DNP is worth it. I genuinely want to tell you to look into your personal goals and what you want your career to look like. With a DNP your opportunities in nursing are limitless. I don’t know about other specialties but for psych in New York you’re looking at about 150k. You can also teach and make some good money on the side. My advisor is a past student from Columbia and she told me if you truly take advantage of the school your possibilities could be limitless. It’s expensive I know so I’m also nervous as I have to consider other schools right now. But Consider nurse corps and other solid Scholarship offers. This is a once in a lofe time opportunity for us. we owe it to ourselves to make it count!

Thanks for your insights, @Doulaseason! I do have longer-term dreams of going toward a DNP route (or more toward a PhD nurse-researcher direction), but I have *no* medical experience at all and really want to soak up the possibilities while I'm in the MDE program -- if one can do so. Also hope to see what makes sense at this stage of life. If money was no 100% object, however, I honestly would dive headfirst through the MDE/DNP. But I still think for MDE it's a solid investment (probably) compared to the other options in NYC -- especially with a timely public/affordable BSN being pretty much impossible.

1) I don’t think it would affect anyone of us as a register nurse. 2) I think the paragraph below from their website would help clarify your concern. Your degree will be MS (master of science in nursing). However they will not write MSN on your diploma.

The fifteen-month program prepares students to enter the nursing profession as masters-credentialed registered nurses better prepared to meet the demands of an evolving health care system. At the end of the program, graduates receive a Master of Science degree in Nursing (MS) and sit for the nationwide test for the licensing of nurses—the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).”

Did you get in?

Hi everyone!

I finally made my account on here this morning to ask if anyone had a good online recommendation for stats (it's been longer then 5 yrs since undergrad for me!) and then I found out that I got in!!! Congrats to everyone who was accepted!! ?

I have my eye on that Portage course so I'll probably go ahead and get registered over there so I can knock that out.

Yup! MDE/PhD! Nice to meet another male nurse applicant. I'll see you at the admitted student's event

Hey everyone! I’ve been waiting to post on here cuz I’ve been at work, but I got into MDE/DNP for the PNP specialty! I still can’t believe this, wow. And to those who didn’t get in, don’t give up hope! I’ve had my share of rejections so far and I know how soul crushing it can be, but don’t worry, that acceptance is coming!
