Direct Entry MSN 2020 at Columbia University

Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

Hello Everyone, The applications for June 2020 at Columbia University has now opened. I haven't seen any new threads for this year so I wanted to start one. I am in the process of applying and half way done! References already sent their recommendations!! and an upside to this year is that Columbia University is no longer requiring the GRE. SO I am pretty happy about that!!

Good Luck!

Thanks, @Gmilitar- this is very helpful info. I'm curious what's considered for merit-based scholarships. If it's simply GPA, is it likely your current one (e.g. pre-requisites for program) or is your 1st bachelor degree GPA factored in as well? Hoping for the former, as I a waaaay stronger student with age vs. me 20 years ago

On the financial aid web sonar that took place a few days ago..the woman said your undergraduate GPA is what is considered. And They also obviously look at ur prereq grades. But she explicitly said they will not combine gpas

Hey guys hope everyone isnt stressing out as I am. I am having extreme anxiety about this because the truth is Columbia is my top first choice....so I am scareddddd lol
also @Gmilitar and everyone else mmbr that chem isn’t a prereq for Columbia..not saying it isn’t important but don’t stress about it if you don’t have to !

you’re right about chem not being a prerequisite for columbia. i guess i was just referring to the prereqs that are required by a lot of nursing programs.

They didn’t ...they said it will be decided after your application has been reviewed fully so you won’t know if you have a merit scholarship at the same time you know about financial aid...it was a little confusing and contrary to what they have been saying before so I’m not sure

For those of you that filled out the financial aid scholarship thing...what about when they asked how much loans you owe for undergrad ?? I was a little worried about this because what if the answer affects how much aid you will receive ...I’m like 85% sure it will...

i was concerned to. but i was just honest. i don’t which will benefit more owing more or less lol

For anyone that is applying to ABSN programs, did you put Second degree bachelor's for your FAFSA? If so, do you think it matters for Columbia?

Hey @geniewishes I registered for the financial aid info session and they suggested you submit two FAFSAs. Second bachelor degree for ABSN programs and graduate degree for Columbia because it does matter.

Specializes in RN.

I ended up contacting the financial aid office a couple of times trying to figure this FAFSA thing out -- I also thought I'd heard you have to make more than one FAFSA. Ultimately, I was told to instead complete one FAFSA (and choose one option - undergrad), submit it, and then go back into my completed FAFSA and change it to graduate and be sure to add the school code. I'm not 100% sure this makes sense, but it's what I did.

Hey all, chiming in as a current student. It seems like most people received merit based aid (with some GPAs that I know being 3.1 and still getting aid). I believe the standard need based aid scholarship was 30k (15k in fall, 15k in spring). They don't offer scholarships for the summer semesters, and please keep in mind that the tuition cost you see does NOT include the last summer semester, so that's an additional cost you'd be paying.

Wow so that’s about 112k on tuition alone not including the fees. do you know the amount for the merit based scholarship?
