Hello Everyone, The applications for June 2020 at Columbia University has now opened. I haven't seen any new threads for this year so I wanted to start one. I am in the process of applying and half way done! References already sent their recommendations!! and an upside to this year is that Columbia University is no longer requiring the GRE. SO I am pretty happy about that!!
Good Luck!

I applied to multiple schools and I just got my email today that I didn't get into NYU (which sucks) but I wonder if anyone else is in this limbo feeling of "I have no idea what I'm going to do with myself" come February.
sorry to hear about the bad news. you’re not the only one worried about feb. i try not to think about it as much. hopkins i heard has a good nursing program if you don’t mind going out of ny.

Same here I got the decision from NYU that I didn't get in. Very heartbreaking ?
I am feeling like I'm in a limbo now and don't want to get my hopes up for Columbia. Although it may feel like the end of the world for us, it's not. And if we don't get in -- we keep trying! Keep your head up.

Any time you walk into a class and the professor starts off by saying "this IS possible" you know you're in for it. It's only a 10 week semester and the course load is heavy. Most weeks there will be at least one exam. Weekly quizzes and so many assignments your head will spin. BUT it goes by extremely fast and you'll be amazed how much you learned in such a short period of time.
Currently finishing up the second semester and it is a mix of accelerated and regular pace courses so it is a tad bit lighter. Basically, if you can make it through that first summer semester you are golden. Just be ready to devote your life to this program. Sit down with your friends and family and explain you will be MIA and will need all the support you can get. It is intense but totally possible if you're dedicated.
The clinical sites are easily my favorite aspect of the program. What you see at Mt Sinai and NYP you're not likely to find in your local hospital. This is where patients go when their cases are very complicated or they're in need of the newest innovations. It's an awesome opportunity to network with some of the best healthcare institutions in the nation.
would you happen to know what the mde program’s retention rate is? i just want to get an idea how it is especially after the first summer semester. from your experience, have you seen a lot of students drop the program?

Nice! I’m taking stats now at LaGuardia. It’s the last prerequisite that I have to take as well . Got my final exam this Friday. Good luck! Let me know if you need help with anything. I’m sure you won’t need it lol
Congrats, Gmilitar. I just had my chemistry lab final today and am taking a breath before I get back to studying for lecture final and nutrition final. How does stats compare to other pre-requisite courses in terms of difficulty/study time? I'm kinda scared because I always feel pretty shaky at math, and the math aspects of chemistry are the worst for me right now!

tbh, for me it’s not bad at all. however, the average exam score of the class is a failing grade. my strategy is to try and understand everything in class and then come an hr early before class starts to review my notes. but i can say that chemistry math is harder solely because, if you’re not used to taking stem courses, it’s less intuitive -if that makes sense lol. my class is once a week so everything is pretty much at a fast-pace. nutrition is easy. i would say that the most difficult ones are chem, a&p, and micro. not necessarily in that order.

If it's simply GPA, is it likely your current one (e.g. pre-requisites for program) or is your 1st bachelor degree GPA factored in as well? Hoping for the former, as I a waaaay stronger student with age vs. me 20 years ago
Hey guys hope everyone isnt stressing out as I am. I am having extreme anxiety about this because the truth is Columbia is my top first choice....so I am scareddddd lol
also @Gmilitar and everyone else mmbr that chem isn’t a prereq for Columbia..not saying it isn’t important but don’t stress about it if you don’t have to !
