Direct entry and graduate entry programs II

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello all,

Its been mentioned before about ending our thread and starting a new one. Think it was tried a few months ago.

Maybe it is time now, seeing as the thread is 72 pages long. That is sort of hard for a new reader to sift through to see where we are now, don't you agree?

p.s. still waiting for my interview information! agh

That's so cool that you have already started!

Smile, how are you doing down in Baltimore? You start next mon, yes? Have you had orientation yet?

-Jess

I just went to pre-orientation today. We got our pictures taken for our security ID's, got a piece of paper stating if we paid up our accounts and signed up for health insurance, and checked out books, medical equipment and uniforms at the medical book store.

Tomorrow we will be at orientation for 2 days (8:30am to 5pm) listening to lectures, panels, etc. Afterwards, I'm leading a gathering of 50+ students - we're meeting at a local microbrewery for dinner and drinks. It should be fun meeting everyone in a relaxed atmosphere!

Guys???

Where the heck is everyone? I finally got my internet set up and no one is here! Hellooooooo . . . GEN! Keep us updated!

Hi Elizabells!

I will share any news when I get it. Argh, it feels like twice as long as it really is. This is considering that I brought my application up on a Friday at around Noon before a three day weekend!

In all honesty they have only had this Tuesday and Wednesday to maybe take a look at it, yet.

When I very first filled out my application I asked what the stats were regarding the amount of applications and the amount of spots. During February it was about 80 applicants for 40 spots. So, depending on how many more qualified applicants were turned in may affect my potential.

So, I emailed last week and asked what the numbers were at the moment and if there were any advanced standing for the January start or how the waitlist worked. Gulp, no response.

Then when I left on Friday I left an email to the coordinator to say that I turned in the application and asked if he could respond to say if he got it, oy, another no response.

I am keeping my communication brief with them, figuring they are busy with their decisions and so on but, wish I could have gotten some word.

Waiting and contemplating next moves.

Now, back to the dorm residers and Jess. :) I think it does sound exiting and very focused, (think tank, stress relief and mutual commiseration and so on.)

p.s. I took a look at the housing options for grad students for DePaul and had to stop because I didn't want to anquish over what may or may not happen but, if it does, I will try to get into the UCC building which I am posting the link to, (grad students get floors 15-18)

Hey Gen -

I've been having the same problem with almost every scholarship I've looked at - it looks like no one is taking our type of program into account. Most of them require you to already be in a BSN program, or be in an ADN-BSN bridge, or something else we are not. Sigh. Looks like it'll be loan repayment programs for me!!!

Make sure you don't consolidate then, it makes you ineligible for many loan repayment programs.

Hi,

I am so glad to read this advice!

Even though I originally figured I would consolidate I changed my mind before actually doing so. I figured that all that "PUSH" the agencies put on you to do it now has got to be a gimmick.

Phew, in holding pattern now as I am on my grace period for undergraduate and I am still taking a minimum of part-time courses.

Gen- That student housing loooks SWEET!! I hope you get in and get housing there!!! Fun!

What's this about not consolidating student loans? I already consolidated my undergrad loans into one loan- does that mean if I take out another stafford for grad school I wouldnt be eligible for loan repayment programs? Or is it just if I roll my grad school loans into my undergrad that I wouldn't be eligible?

Thanks!~

Hi Jess,

I think the consolidation is only for the nursing loans, (to keep them separate from the other loans) so that nursing loan repayment by employers or government can happen.

This is what I thought, anyhow.

My fingers are really crossed about DePaul, either fall or winter.

So orientation is excruciatingly boring. I am so happy that tomorrow is the last day and that we only have two hours of actual meeting time. Today I wanted to beat my head against a wall repeatedly. :banghead: (btw I am so proud of myself for figuring out that smiley)

mission and elizabells, hi. I guess someday we'll actually meet. Ya never know, maybe we already have.

Sorry for the :zzzzz of a day. How big is your class? I can't believe you all haven't met up yet? You're right though, maybe you have! :)

It's so awful. And I'm homesick. Bleah. It should get good next week.

Laura, I missed the first half of intros (I was outside smoking with the other bad kids) so I don't think I saw you, and I was bummed. I was the one in the middle section, towards the front, with the background in HIV peer education at Santa Cruz. Meh, there were a lot of us, you probably don't remember, plus I booked out of the barbecue as soon as I got my ID cause I just couldn't take any more. Maybe we'll end up in a group together tomorrow. Oooh, you know what, a few of us are meeting downstairs to walk over together for coffee tomorrow. I'll call you around eight? Hope that's okay . . .

This is what I meant, they will not repay your loans if you consolidate them with non-nursing loans.

Elizabells, you must have been sitting near me because I was in the middle toward the front as well. Anyway, I am the only Olivia. What groups did you guys get into? I'm in 1, D and Millstein 9 garden south.

Hi,

I called and asked DePaul if they knew when decisions would be made and was told that the first round went out, (before my packet came in). I was also told that the first round of applicants that declined came in and that the second round of acceptances went out.

I was told by the coordinator that they are waiting for the second round of declines to come back and that I should know then.

I asked, "Does this mean that I am on the waiting list?" He said, "well, the nursing department would have to review you packet when all the official transcripts are in."

I am still waiting for one official, from my degree granting school and I have two more official here which completes all of my transcripts.

I asked, "Well, will they give us enough time to find housing?" He asked, "Does DePaul have graduate housing?" Hmmm, yes, I told him, in the UCC and if I wait to late that my odds of getting housing decrease.

He said, "I live in off campus housing but, in the area."

I said, well, I don't want to hurry things but, if they do take me, which I hope, that I would need some time to move and to square away my financial aid and stuff.

We hung up and I called him back later and he said he was just about to call me to give me the updated information.

He asked me to call back in about a week and to call the nursing department directly.

I think I will make sure that they have ALL of my official transcripts before I call them.

:)

So, maybe a week or two.

p.s. still crossing fingers.
