Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hello all,

Its been mentioned before about ending our thread and starting a new one. Think it was tried a few months ago.

Maybe it is time now, seeing as the thread is 72 pages long. That is sort of hard for a new reader to sift through to see where we are now, don't you agree?

p.s. still waiting for my interview information! agh

Okay,

Here I go again! :) I drop off the completed packet today. Well, the packet isn't completely complete because some of my official transcripts aren't here yet, but, DePaul gave me permission to temporarily use unofficial transcripts so, those are all in.

My fingers are crossed that this one sticks. If not, there is one more plan before ceding to the ADN, (really want to open up that seat to a hopeful wait-listed Associate student!)

;)

I do not know when there true final decisions come out but, I heard that they were being made...today...?

Gen

Good for you Gen! I have a really good feeling about this one for you! Fingers crossed for you (but you are most likely a shoo-in and don't even need it!!!)

Thank you so much Jess!

Just reading those words felt nice. :)

I dropped off the application. I realized that DePaul is right down the street from the first place I lived and worked after my nanny-tour was over! How cyclical would that be? That would be nice.

However, I do not know when final word will be. I really don't know how it will go but am both hopeful and leary.

Until the word is sent, I will just try to not worry.

p.s. how is the cross country traveller doing today? I haven't responded to the daily posts but do look forward to reading...how was the road, the hotel beds, the hotel showers, the everything?

Ditto! And I think Laura's moving into our dorm today, so hopefully she'll check in once the madness stops!

Good luck, Gen. Ooooooommmmmmm...

Howdy! Just arrived in Baltimore late last night! I slept on the floor of my new apt (my apt mate let me in) and I'm putting together bookcases and my desk. The rest of my boxes should be arriving today (20 of them) via FedEx Ground (my sleeping bag in there!).

The trip was alright. I drove 11 to 12 hours/day covering 700 to 800 miles each day. I ended up staying at Motel 6's for the most part. Did you know there's a new Motel 6 at Grand Island, Nebraska that's only 3 weeks old? Everything is all nice and new! :wink2:

In the 'prairies' I was going 75 mph (that's the legal speed limit - yeah!). There's not much to see - just lots of flat sprawling fields. Thank goodness for books on tape and pre-recorded music! :chuckle

Chicago, I hit some major construction and rush hour traffic; I was crawling with the rest of the drivers at 20 mph. Otherwise, most of the time I could go 65 to 70 mph with no problem. It's strange going through toll roads. It seems like everytime you just get started, you need to pay another toll! Thank goodness I had a lot of spare change! :p

Once I reached Baltimore proper, I got lost. The yahoo directions were not very clear. But I finally figured it out and arrived safely at 8pm! I was really glad to see my apt mate! :D

I couldn't really post much because one of the internet connection was 19.2 Kbps and it took so long to bring up a webpage! Today I got my high speed cable set up and it's wonderful! :-) (I had DSL at home.) Many thanks for "watching" over me! I appreciate it!

Hi,

Great! Glad you are in.

Sorry about the traffic in my neck of the woods!

-As a side note about crawling through Chi-town traffic....Yesterday I drove my application up to DePaul. Which means I drove from I-57 on northward to 90/94 and exited at Fullerton. Sheesh! It was crawling. Sigh, good thing is though, if I am accepted I have decided that living on campus is going to be the route rather than commute. Of course I will have to work out the details with the hubby but, I am sure he would rather see me on the weekends than crabily complaining every night about the commute! ;) -

Now, when do classes start for you again smile? Is your apartment-mate also in the program?

Good luck!

Gen

p.s. hopefully you have a strategy to fight off that 'new-apartment-new-city-homesick feeling' which may creep in....yeah for you!

Thanks! I agree that living on campus sure beats the commute! You will be in much better spirits!

The orientation starts June 1st! Classes start the following Monday, June 6th! So I will be spending the ensuing days putting together furniture and unpacking boxes (all the boxes arrived today so I'm very happy about it!) I have 2 other apt mates in my program, so it will be nice to have built in study partners! :p

So far, I have not felt home sick in the least. It's more of "where is the nearest Whole Foods, Target, IKEA and Office Depot" and "how to find my way around without getting lost in an unsavory neighborhood?" I'm running on adrenaline right now! I was totally stressed before I left California, so I'm feeling much better. My mind still races at night thinking of all the things I need to do before school starts, but it's a good type of stress!

Gotta get back to assembling my desk! Good luck with the DePaul application! :-D

I finally have a chance to check in! So far I've learned that the columbia housing office has an unofficial motto of "we're just not trying." I asked them about wireless internet (i forgot my cord) and they pointed to the lounge. 20 minutes later I returned to tell them that it wasn't working and they told me that was because I needed to download some software first (useful information that would have saved me 20 frustrating minutes). This is not the only incident with them. grrr.

I arrived in town on the 26th (moved in on the 27th) with my dad and he has been keeping me really busy. I haven't even finished unpacking yet. So far I'm somewhat overwhelmed (and I lived in west la for 4 years, I feel for small town people). I think I'm going to really like it in nyc once I get my bearings. Alright, I gotta go.

Seriously, Laura!!! I can't get on at all, even with an ethernet cord. I'm at my grandmother's house right now! They have not been remotely helpful, and I really hope this isn't going to be the way of things from now on. I think you PMed me your room number, maybe I'll swing by tonight and say hi. If I don't make it, see you Wednesday!!

Hey everyone!

I haven't posted much lately because I've been busy with my Orgo class (ugh!) but I have been reading posts. Gen- I'm rooting for you- please let us know when you hear anything from DePaul! Eliza, Laura and any other Columbians - I'm soooo jealous you are starting your program next week!! Craziness! You have to let us know what you are studying, what your classes and labs are like, if you have any crazy professors, etc etc. I want all the details!!!

Hi Jess!!! Well, so far we had one day of orientation, and it was stultifyingly boring. Tomorrow we have mandatory lectures on abuse, ethics, infection control, etc. Laura and I still haven't found each other. pssst, Laura, I got your note on my door! I think it's too late to call you though. I'll try you tomorrow during our lunch break.

That's so cool that you have already started! Unreal! Sorry the orientation was a snoozer. When do you get started on the real stuff...skills labs, clinicals etc? What are your classmates like? How are the dorms? I don't know if I could do dorm living at this stage of my life- but I get nostalgic for my undergrad days when I hear about dorm move-in.

Smile, how are you doing down in Baltimore? You start next mon, yes? Have you had orientation yet?
