Hello all,

Its been mentioned before about ending our thread and starting a new one. Think it was tried a few months ago.

Maybe it is time now, seeing as the thread is 72 pages long. That is sort of hard for a new reader to sift through to see where we are now, don't you agree?

You are all correct in the advice to stick with it and follow through on your application and to just go on and talk to the people who can make the decisions.

I felt like I did plead my case and push it and follow through, (while trying to be non-pushy or urgent or naggy or anything less than understanding!)

Off to being busy, like you all, very busy. :)

It's good you were assertive, yet not pushy. I know a guy who kept bugging the admissions people every week. They were probably so sick of hearing from him. He did not get in to that school. It's a fine balance. Thank goodness you followed up on the transcripts! I'm so glad you are in! I'm also happy you are doing the MSN first and then deciding on the MSW later. (You'll be so flexible and employable after you get that RN!)

Hey smile - what's your exam schedule like? We're also ending week 3, we've had 2 midterms so far and another scheduled for next week... Thank goodness I went to a school on the quarter system so I'm used to that pace, I just assume one will have solid exams from week 3 onwards...but some of my friends only know semesters and they're freaking.

Hi Elizabells,

Yes, every week we have 2 quizzes, careplans to write up for clinical, CHH (comprehensive health histories) to write up for clinical and labs (that's just for one class). Then we have 2 midterms and a final in each class. There are projects, papers and IT assignments as well. Previsouly, I was on a 10 week quarter schedule so it's very similar to that pace, only FASTER! This means time management is critical and it's very important not to fall behind. To all of you reading this, if you need help, get it sooner rather than later! Talk to your professor, TA or clinical instructor. Do the practice sessions. Form study groups. Discipline your time. Yes, it will seem like boot camp, but that's because that's what it is! Accel'd programs are fast and furious because you're cramming 2 years of nursing classes into 13 months! (Accel'd programs assume everyone has a bachelor's degree already, so that's the reason they can do this.)

Whenever I get dispirited about anything, my dad the sports coach always says "you're not the first person to do this. Hundreds, if not thousands of people have done this before you and succeeded. Are you saying you think they're better than you?"

(Accel'd programs assume everyone has a bachelor's degree already, so that's the reason they can do this.)

I like this Smile...nursing boot camp!!

I will keep this in mind, even though DePaul has a different schedule they are also jam packed with two years giving the RN and also the MSN together. The boot camp/basic training concept is a good one. Just last night me and my hubby were talking about me staying on campus versus making the hourlong one way commute every day, doing homework and stressing at home. This 'total-institution' situation will indeed be like your example of boot camp. Hey, whatever it takes, right? :) Cheers!

I read about some study on med students that when they did this, they were better students and had healthier marriages than those who didn't. Just something to think about, I guess.

I will see you there. This must mean that we have permission to be in that forum rather than in the pre-nurses forum, (but, we are still pre-nurses).

What ever happened to the possibility of a pre-nurses graduate student forum? Did we not get feedback from the moderators about that?

That is the same thing my dad used to tell me, and my husband now tells me the same thing.

It's true - in fact, I wonder if truer words were ever spoken - but BOY is it hard to believe sometimes...

I'm applying to several direct entry programs this year - and I'm terrified!

Also the schools you already mentioned- UCSF, Columbia, etc.. Yale and UW also have direct MSN's. I've mainly been looking on the West Coast and Northeast for personal reasons, so I'm sure there's alot of great programs in the midwest and elsewhere too- there's a ton of existing forums and threads if you search.

Vanderbilt also has a direct MSN program. I'm applying there myself.
