Diploma, Associates or Bachelors??

Published

I was curious about which degree I should pursue... a diploma from a nursing school, an associates or go for my bachelors? I want to get done as soon as I can. I am taking my last pre-req right now and then I can apply for nursing school this December.

Thanks in advance!!

I wasn't aware that there are any diploma schools anymore?

If your only criteria is to get done as soon as possible, then of course you would go the associates route. Other than that, I'm not sure how we can advise you without more information as to your goals and aspirations.

There is a school here in Missouri that offers a diploma. What do most employers want out of a new grad? Associates or Bachelors?

Yeap there are still diploma schools. There are two hospitals in my area that still offer nursing schools and a diploma is what you earn. The schooling is shorter than ASN/ADN.

and it's a quick trip to a dead end re employment, too.

get your bs in nursing. there's a whole thread about this somewhere-- go find it and read it there.

I agree. Many of the hospitals who train the diploma nurses also hire them under a contract. Just like anyone they should be encouraged to continue their education. I only know a few diploma nurses personally, but they are ALL employed.
