Graduated 12/2017 wasn’t able to take NCLEX until released from LSBPNE which was 03/2018 due to some criminal charges I got as young adult trying find my way . License place on probation for 2 yrs , random drug testing every month sometimes 2/3 drug screens a month , quarterly evaluation! So from 3/2018 till now had nothing but negative drug screens til recently I was selected to test on the 24th which is now my 3rd drug test this month. results in on 27 “diluted urine” how?! I did nothing differently than I would do any other day! I drink nothing but water but not a lot maybe 4 bottles in. 24hr day! But this particular day I had only gotten to 2 and a energy drink got off work a little atfer 3 pm headed straight to testing center which is 30 miles away supplied my urine sample. Clear yellow as usual for me! Now 28 here, I check in. BOOM ? im selected again for urine drug screen. Have not yet got those results back. Monday morning MRO called informed my drug screen was diluted but no abnormal substance found just abnormal creatinine levels 15 and I normally been testing with 19! So instructed me what I should and should not do on selected days to prevent future diluted urine. So now the waiting game has begin to find out what the Louisiana Nursing board going to do with my license! Have anybody ever had this issue please reply I’m nervous reck right now!!?

I would not worry too much about a single dilute specimen. In my experience with the Texas monitoring program they only give you a hard time for repeated dilute specimens because then they assume the participant is deliberately trying to interfere with the accuracy of testing. Just do as you have been instructed. I have heard that a high protein snack about an hour before producing urine specimen will help to avoid a dilute specimen but do not know if that is true. I know it can be difficult to strike that balance, of course you want to be able to produce enough urine when you arrive at the lab and it is easy to overdo the fluids. Hang in there! This too shall pass.
Hey Thanks responding,
I’m from Louisiana and I did get a letter from the board few days ago instructed me to write a letter to explain why I had diluted specimen 10 days to respond back! So I just pray this shall pass with a warning I sure would hate to have to repeat 2 yrs of probation when I’m so close to the end . April 2020 is my month/yr. So looking forward to it
I was thinking about getting my RN but I just wondering if my criminal history will affect those license too due to the fact two different boards! I really would like to go after my RNs but if I have go through what I’m going through now with my LPN license than this will my final stop !

I had one. I was instructed how to avoid it (be mindful of fluid intake and high protein snack prior to testing). I did that and had no further problems.

I am currently in the same situation I was suspended for 2 years, reinstated with a probated license 2 months ago but still have to drug test randomly while I'm on probation. I'm an LPN in Louisiana. I was chosen to test on the 19th of this month (today is he 29th) and it came back diluted. I have to have monitored drug testing so someone watches me while I pee which means I couldn't possibly be cheating. Well I drink a lot of water but if I test that day I only drink 2 bottles max. One of my medications gives me dry mouth and I've had 2 diluted urines before but someone from the board always calls to tell me it was diluted and last time (a few months ago) he told me if it happens again that I would have to do a hair sample drug test and it cost more money.
Anyways, yesterday my employer called me and told me that state board emailed them that my license had been suspended effective immediately for a diluted urine drug screen so I was told not to come to work. I never heard from my probation officer, --------------------------, so I contacted her by email but still nothing. I logged onto my nurse portal and it says suspended FOR A MINIMUM OF 2 YEARS for diluted urine. WHAT THE HECK?! I've never had a positive or any sort of issues with my drug testing other than the previous diluted urines but was told I could do a hair sample in the past. I'm hoping someone else sees this and can tell me ill be aloud to give a hair sample to prove I haven't done drugs instead of doing another 2 years of suspension! I don't know why they jumped to suspension instead of hair sample if there's a way I can prove I'm not using drugs. If anyone sees this please reach out if this has happened to you! [email protected]

Did it happen a 3rd time? I had it twice and tried to keep my fluid intake down on testing days but I just had a third and my license was immediately suspended over it (this happened yesterday). I'm trying to see if there's a way I can do a hair drugs test to prove I'm not doing drugs so that I don't have to be suspended for 2 years over drinking too much water! There's got to be a way to prove it so I don't have to deal with suspension for 2 years!!

I had similar experience early on in my program as I was learning the ropes. Coffee and energy drinks are a big no for me on test days. Cutting out caffeine and adding a protein shake prior to going in to test has resolved the problem and I still have to drink a ton of water to be able to pee on demand it seems. Peppermint tea prior to and peppermint oil on my mask at test center also make it easier to go.

WHOA!! BON suspension?? For diluted urine...blows the mind! I am currently employed PNR and getting ready for a temporary travel assignment to which I needed a urine drug testing...which I did. Came back "negative dilute" and the company requested to re-do UDS...which I did. Second UDS came back again as "negative dilute" again (I do live in Hawaii and am well-hydrated). So....a third UDS was requested; however, I was told that "their policy is they only allow 3 UDS attempts" and "if a 3rd UDS was again dilute, it triggers a Board Report".
I was like....what is a Board Report?
Apparently, it is an automatic reports to ALL individual Board of Nursing regarding "multiple dilute urine samples submitted" which can trigger an investigation with the Boards of Nursing (currently licensed in Hawaii, California and New Mexico)....AND...that 3rd failed attempt puts me on minimum travel suspension with the travel company for 3 years and not reconsidered until ALL states are cleared of their investigations.
Plus...the BON contacts your employer to advise them "you are under investigation". Since I work at in an "at will state" AND a non-union hospital, the facility has the ability to suspend me also pending investigation.
I DID ask for an "observed" UDS thinking that if came back "dilute", it would be accepted as it was "observed"...NOPE! I DID ask about hair or saliva sampling, which they don't accept or even do in Hawaii.
Soooooo....it's either dehydrate myself and drink sodas all day today & take a chance on a 3rd UDS with possible consequences with the BON and my current job --- OR --- cut my ties and not travel?????
It's like playing the lottery.
BTW....I live on a tropical island, hydration is important. No....I take no meds and my kidneys work fine (according to my testing).
It’s been several years but as I recall, while in TPAPN I did have a few dilute specimens. I believe I rectified the problem by always carrying protein bars and having a meal or protein bar before going to the lab. I did not need to restrict my fluid intake at all.
