Dilemma - What To Do, What To Do

I have applied for a part-time job.

So far, the hiring person has asked if I'd be available for a phone interview on 4 different dates.

She has not called.

After the first 2 times, I left a message for her, asking for a call back. She replied by asking my

availability for the next 2 dates, referred to above. She also did not call at either of those

2 times. The most recent was yesterday afternoon.

I am inclined to apply elsewhere. There are 4 openings, at 4 different places. Unfortunately,

they all have the same HR Department.

I don't know if it would cause trouble/embarrassment for the hiring person who has been

stringing me along so far, if she has been. Or has she just been busy, is she disorganized, has she

been overwhelmed by staff shortages, or was she beamed up to Mars? Has she decided against

me? Or???

I am reluctant to leave another message. I don't know quite why. It feels either

pushy or foolish to do so.

What do you suppose HR's response would be if I asked them to forward my application to

one of the other 3 managers?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Is it wrong to apply for all the positions available if you're interested in all of them? Would that show them you want a job, or would that say "desperate?"

Is it possible to request HR to forward your app to 2 of the 4 positions? That way you'll have options and all your eggs won't be stuck in the same basket leaving you with the potential for a repeat of this. Pick the 2 which interest you the most and go for it!

Good luck.

Who knows? I am thinking of asking HR to send my app to the other clinics and see who, if anyone, responds first.

In the past, I've heard that, in general, which means little, HR will only send your app to one hiring Manager at a time. But I guess it's OK to see what they might do for me.

This is a great idea! Thanks.

I've never thought about it, but many of the online application platforms I've seen have an option to select multiple positions.

I did this myself when looking for my first job; I applied to both the neuro and transplant floors... possibly another unit or two, I can't remember. But those two NMs both decided to interview me; HR scheduled an interview first with them and then the two NMs back-to-back.

Now I will never ever be a manager... but in my mind I would think multiple units shows flexibility and willingness/openness. Contrast that with a new grad who will ONLY apply to ED/ICU/NICU/L&D etc, because that was the whole reason s/he became an RN.

OP I had a similar thought as some others. Remember a job search is not merely to be vetted; it's an opportunity for you to vet the company.

I think it's reasonable to ask HR if it's possible to forward your app -- "or do I need to reapply individually to another position?"

An interview is not a job.

Don't stop sending applications until you have a job.

Well, they did go with another candidate. The real actual hiring Manager emailed me to say that, thanked me for applying.

So I think they had this person already lined up when I applied.

I don't know why the song and dance with the person who turned out to be the clerk.

I thanked the Manager for letting me know, said I was still available if anything changed.

But honestly I think I will stay retired for now, see how I feel about resuming a few work hours in a while maybe. Retirement is such a huge change. I like it and am adjusting but don't want to grow too accustomed to being lazy and wasting time.

Thanks to all who responded.
