Office Max or Office Depot. Range from $20 something to $120ish.
I picked lower mid range ($40- on sale) because I didn't need the built in ipod/mp3/whatever or the super high quality suitable for recording music. I waivered over the benefit of the plug-it-straight-into-the-computer feature but decided not. I want the ability to down load to the compter but the plugging via the enclosed cord will work.
I have the Olympus VN-6200PC and it's easily the best thing I ever got for school. It has 5 folders (use one for each class) and can store up to 444 hours of audio. I record anything I think might be useful, often full lectures as is the case for A&P, etc., and then I upload them to my computer and listen to them with Audacity after a quick noise removal. It plugs into the PC with a standard mini-USB cable and comes with a nice carrying case to protect it. Right now it's $67 at BestBuy, but I've seen it on sale for $50 and it's only $46 from Amazon with free shipping.

I have the same one & I love it!!!!! I actually have finals this week & listen to my lectures while I'm at work. It's the best $67 I've ever spent!
I have a smart pen I really like it, but it doesnt have voice to print (like Dragon Naturally Speaking software) so I am looking for a digital recorder. I wish smartpens had that feature, but they don't it does have written text to typed text, but your writing has to be very, very neat, and it doesnt seem to recognize many medical words. I find that I'm writing too fast and too much to get a good transcription on my computer from the smartpen paper recordings. I spend more time re-typing and editing that I did at the lecture, I could have just replayed the audio. For lectures where I need to "sneak" a recorder in I will use my smartpen. I would not recommend a smartpen for rapid note taking classes.
