Different pay and responsibility for 2 year RN's VS 4 year RN's

Nurses General Nursing

I'm completing an RN to BSN program in 2 months. I have learned so much in the BSN program I wish I had taken it sooner. The additional education has taught me skills I never learned in trainings, or by experience.

I think that just as there is a difference in the tasks an RN and LPN can preform, there should also be a difference in what a two year RN can do, in comparison to a RN with a BSN. The 2 year RN should not be in leadeership or management positions since they have not been trained in accredeited colleges for this skill. The BSN has. I'm sure the 2 yers RN's will disagree with me, and 2 years ago I would have disagreed also. However, after being able to compare the two from personal experience, I feel the BSN is more educated for leadership and management. The BSN nurse should be paid more, and should be the starting educational level for these positions.

Most professions have at least a 4 year degree. Nurses need to improve their educational standing to be equal with other professional fields.

I was just warning another person in here not to use her picture because people can be very mean in the real world.

Cheryl, there are quite a few of us with our pictures posted who speak our opinions here and are not "warned" by other posters. You're continued "warnings" don't seem to me to be made in an effort to help Nikki, but rather threaten her. I see absolutely no reason why a person can't identify themselves as wanting the BSN as the minimum requirement. And you're encouraging her to hide? Rather than continually "warning" her, how about encouraging people not to be so unprofessional and not take out their disagreements on her? To me that would be a helluva lot more useful.

Mishl,

General Ed requirements have nothing to do with the "all-mighty dollar." Tuition is the same, regardless on if you're required to take a course in lit or a course on Biblical studies. [/quote

Susy I certainly think it DOES have to do with the almighty dollar when colleges insist ADN's and Diploma nurses RETAKE them at their institution...and only because those credits were ' not affiliated with a BSN curriculum.'

So many of us have taken these general ed credits through local JUCO's, universities, and CLEP at some point (I took mine at a local university through my diploma program as we were trying to become a BSN program) ...and IMHO is just plain ridiculous why we must redo them to get a BSN. It IS about power, control, and $$$, IMO.

Gotta echo Deb's and a few others' sentiments: I'm not saying never to the BSN and I hope to see it as entry level in years to come, as a means of unification, but I will have to see TPTB a tad more respectful of me before I will ever finish it up. I'm just tired of the higher education $$ grabbing games.

okay, i'm gonna lock this one..

we're no longer debating the issue..haven't in a while...

we've, once again, turned this thread into an "attack the attacker" thread..

this is a topic that we will never all agree on and it digs deep into the hearts of many..

we'd be much better off lobbying our opinions to our state boards..

fighting here will do nothing but hurt feelings..

rest, ole' dead horse..rest
