Just wondering if you worked while going to school to be a nurse, and if so, part time or full time!

I worked every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday 3-11 at a NH during nursing school, which is not to say that sometimes I didn't end up pulling doubles working 3-11 and 11-7 sometimes when they needed help or working 80 hour weeks during vacations from school to catch up on bills. I passed, which is all that matters to me right now... didn't have a life then and don't have one now anyways...used to it!:chuckle

I worked full time nights (10 hour shifts/4 night a week). I had a 7month old daughter when I started and only slept every 3rd night. Just about as close as you can get to insanity. Now it has been 4 years and I can't bring myself to go back and get my RN.

persist! don't cave!

It doesn't look like anyone has posted on this since May, but here is my two-cents anyway!:D

I am working full-time during my pre-reqs, than I will work part-time when I am in nursing school (or I will quit altogether).

I worked Saturdays and Sundays filing, drawing blood, and cleaning medical instrumentswhole time I was in nursing school. I couldn't work more than that because the schedules changed so rapidly and were long hours and my husband was in the Army. My oldest son had a slew of health problems. He was diagnosed with lymphoma while I was in school-I had to take year off from nursing school to take care of him but actually took some extra classes in the months nearing my return. It was very tough, but well worth it!!

Mom of Twins here!

Our twins were 18 months old when we started nursing school...yes, "WE"..hubby (at the time) and I both quit jobs to go to school. He worked as an EMT while I was mommy and student. I did work the last semester of school part-time, 20 hours a week, but would have gladly worked full-time; the boys were 3 by then!..LOL They survived, I graduated in the top 3, but hubby dropped out after 2 semesters-said the fishing was too good to worry about care plans! He worked while I finished nursing, and after graduation, I put him through paramedic school. That was over 10 years ago..I couldn't chase the kids and go to school now like I did then!

My first year of nursing school I did work full time as an emergency medical dispatcher, my second year I dropped down to part-time with help from my husband.

currently working 40 hrs at one job and 15 at another, while going to school full-time. however i'm quitting my full time job as of august 18 - when i start school at the nursing college!

25 business days and counting!!!! woohoo!!! :balloons: :balloons:

First semester I worked part time 11-7am, second semester worked part time 7-3pm, third semester went to class Monday-Thursday so worked per diem and picked up hours when I could (usually 1 day a week), last semester thinking about going back part time, wait until I see the syllabus:) Went to school every summer full time so worked part time during the summer, because took classes like A&P, sociology and now Microbiology and Medical ethics (no piece of cake). So believe me today I feel mentally drained.

But there are many girls in my class who work full time, school full time, kids full time and do alright. I think it all depends on you. I personally feel if you can afford to cut your hours cut them because this is my ultimate goal and loss of money will be my sacrifice until I am a full pledged RN, but don't get me wrong I really could use the money now.
