Hello,
I am currently going into my senior year in college. I transferred to my school as a sophomore. I was attending Mount Saint Mary College in NY as a pre-nursing major. I hated the school and it reflected in my grades. I had a 2.7 GPA which I believe is low. I ended up getting a C- in AP II and which made me lose my seat. (All pre-nursing majors were guaranteed a seat in the program as long as they had the required grades) I could have retaken the class but I hated the school, it was super expensive, and I saw this as a way out. I ended up transferring to a state school that gave me the college experience I wanted. Now I have a 3.55 GPA and I am on track to graduate with honors. I am currently a biology major at my new school because there is no nursing here. Everyone is pushing me down the PA or Doctor route but I still have my heart set on becoming a midwife. Here is my problem. I plan on applying to SUNY Orange (Orange County Community College) for their ADN Program but I feel like my past experiences will hinder me. I am afraid they will see classes like nursing chemistry (4 credits) and intro to nursing (1 crdt) on my transcript and think I was dismissed from the program. I was technically never a nursing major. Also I am retaking AP II in the spring of 2019 but they wont see that on my transcript since I am applying in Oct. Will they think "she can just retake in in our program". The admission process is on a points system. You get points for your GPA, # of programs points already completed (English 101 etc), # of science points completed (Bio 101, Chem 101 etc),and your teas score (taking in Sept). The higher your score the more likely you will be accepted. I have taken all of the classes in the program curriculum except for the actual nursing ones. Do you think my experiences as a freshman will hurt me? There is no interview (I don't think) so I won't be able to explain that I am retaking AP II in the spring. If you went to SUNY Orange how was your experience and how competitive is it? Do you think I have a chance? Answers from everyone welcomed.

You need to ask these questions to the academic counselor at the college.
Best wishes.

Yep. You need to find out how admissions considers course retakes in their decisions.

My school had a seminar on how they viewed courses when applying for the nursing program. It was a point based system. Maybe the program you're applying to also offers these one hour informal chats.

As those before me mentioned, it woud be best if you spoke to someone at the school of where you'd like to apply. I, however, want to give you a little bit of encouragement. I had my son when I was 18 and in my first semester of college. Needless to say I had some horrible grades on my transcripts. When I decided to return to school a few years ago, my GPA was LOOOW! I can't even remember what it was. However, I worked my butt off and got my Associate's at a community college in May of 2017. I transferred to a University August of 2017 and I will graduate with my Bachelor's this December with Honors. I was planning to apply for OT but, this past May, I decided to pursue one of my lifelong goals. You guessed it, nursing. I began researching schools near me and decided on an accelerated program that will begin in January of 2019. My application was done through NCAS and once my transcripts were added, my overall gpa is a 3.1 but my math and science is a 3.6. However, the school I chose looks at the last 60 hours and my gpa for my last 60 hours is a 3.96. I submitted my application early and I got my acceptance 5 days later. It wouldn't hurt to apply. Good luck.
Thank you so much! I contacted them and they said that the C- would not transfer into the program, which makes sense so I could just retake it. Im hoping the rest of my stats will make up for it. Deep down I feel like I'm not good enough to get in but it cannot hurt to send in application.
