Did I get the job?

so I went in to take a pre-employment test today and passed it. The HR told me that the manager really liked me and then she asked which shift I preferred ....then discussed salary & benefits. Then she told me that she has to wait at least 2-3 weeks for paperwork and then she'll contact me so that I can do my physical exam/ bring health documents.... etc. does this mean they want to hire me?

sounds like it because of the physical exam but dont put all your eggs in one basket :)

I hear ya. Its also nice that she talked about processing the paperwork and getting it ready. For my critical care internship it was like that. I got the tentative offer but they had to wait several weeks for the paperwork to be prepared so maybe they are avoiding saying the offer until its legit?

Fake them out. Say you are unclear of whether all that recently happened means that you got the job because you just got a job offer at another hospital and you don't know if should turn down hospital B or tell them you need to get back to them (because you are waiting to hear back from hospital A).

Well, it's a good idea unless they call your bluff. What if they say "well, we're not ready to commit - you go ahead and take the other offer."

I guess in that case, you can always say you decided not to take the 2nd offer and you're still interested in their position.....still, I think it's not a good idea to play games.

haha yea, i think if i bluff them and then they'll say "ok, go take the other offer." Then i'll probably start stuttering ummmm welll actually i dont have an offer but just wanted to see how you're progressing on your end :rolleyes: :eek:

IMO, you're not hired until you have a specific verbal or a specific written offer of a job. It looks good though, but until that offer comes through I wouldn't leave any current job/quit job hunting just yet.

Nothing's saying you can't call them and ask for an update on your application's status :) I'd avoid "faking them out" though because as others have mentioned, it could backfire...and in this economy, they're likely not lacking for applicants, so they wouldn't have any problems finding another person for the spot if they thought you may not commit.

Instead, just flat out ask what's the status of your application and whether they need anything else from you.

hii everyone, so I have an update on my status. They are bringing me in to start the pre-hire process. So it's a bit confusing... during the interview awhile ago, the HR told me that the orientation starts in March. Now she is telling me that the position wont be available til April b/c the job posting is still up and theres a deadline to take it down... etc. what..... does this mean?

It sure sounds like it! I hope so. Techinically speaking, from an HR standpoint, one isn't hired until all the tests are done and the paperwork is completed and a start date is official. They wouldn't waste their time doing paperwork on someone they aren't planning on hiring. So, congrats! You just need that start date now :-)

I just came across a website called "American Dream Review." This site has a list of over 37,000 foreign nurses who passed the NCLEX on the 29th and 30th of November, 2009 and apparently want to work in the U.S.

I can't find a position although I have two grad degrees and 26 years of mostly bedside and supervisory experience. I have worked with foreign nurses who can read and write English but can't speak very well.

Besides being unsafe in an emergency, working with nurses who barely speak and understand English caused me to run my legs off trying to fill all the gaps in communications and care due to having staff who could not communicate with patients, families, doctors, pharmacy, lab., etc. I don't object to working with any foreign nurse who speaks and understands English well as long as she wasn't hired for the purpose of replacing a nurse who advocates for patients and for nurses.

Are foreign nurses being hired instead of U.S. citizens? Is the supply of nurses being intentionally increased beyond demand? If so, why?

Is there a plan to drive down wages or to cause nurses to be insecure and not organize? Are nurses supposed to be so fearful for their jobs they will not advocate for patients (rock the boat) as care deteriorates with the economy?

We all know nurses who work into their 70's. We don't have pensions and depend on Social Security. Older nurses must work part time or part of the year just to pay the bills. Experience counts for something. Yet U.S. nurses can't get hired?

We need to call our Representatives and Congressional leaders to tell them we are catching on and are holding them responsible. We need to join and support our state and national nursing organizations right now, before it is too late.

We can hire interpreters in areas where we have many foreign speaking patients. I am very concerned about this.
