I am planning on attending the RN program at NCCC in Fall 2008, has anyone gone through it? Were the profs good? How was your clinical experience? I have known a few people that went through nursing school (in general not necessarily there) and they say it was h*ll, what did you think? I am also a little worried about the drop out rate, I hear it is very high, can anyone tell me why students tend to drop out? I am a little nervous since I am a little older than probably most the students that I will attend with but that isn't what is bothering me, it is more of the fear of failure I guess or being unable to practice safely (which they clearly state will get me booted if I am unsafe). I have spoken with a person there who was helpful but I was too nervous to ask to many questions without truly being a student in the program.
I'm a 2006 graduate of the RN program at NCCC.I found it difficult and emotionally draining. I feel NCCC's nursing program prepared me for my job as a nurse. I've been on a med-surg floor with 6-8 pts since graduation and let me tell ya, it takes a lot of multitasking, professionalism, and confidence. NCCC really prepared me for the NCLEX. I passed with 162 questions my first try.
Unfortunately, you have to have a certain mindset to get through N Trip's program successfully. If you don't like taking orders without question and feeling belittled and demeaned from time to time than go elsewhere. It's all in how you handle it. You'll be fine if you act like an adult, not a rebellious teenager, and study, study, study.
I know this reply is late so I'm not sure if your plans are still the same. Good luck to you!!
yes great program the lab holy crap I wanted to light up a few packs of smokes for that I dont even smoke so god bless everyone who goes throught the program

Thank you so much for your reply!!! I am an older student so hopefully some life experience will help me get through a little.
Did alot of people you started with quit or get released due to poor grades? That is one of my biggest fears is not doing well enough to stay in the program. Could you PM me and let me know which profs to stay away from and which to take? Thanks again so much for your answer.

I'm not sure to laugh or cry at your comment . What was so bad about the lab? PM me with an answer. A girlfriend and I are hoping to attend together. We are trying to get into a biology for Spring to qualify for the program and hoping to start full-time in the fall but we have talked and may take A&P only before entering the actual nursing program so it could be fall 09 start for us. She is scared to death and I will admit, sometimes she scares the crap out of me when we are talking. Is the program really that scarey or is it just in her mind? I'm thinking it is in her mind but maybe I'm in denial

It doesn't say who is teaching my bio class yet, it still says "Staff". I am signed up for A&P I, I tried to get into human bio but the class is full and no one has budged and I do not want to put off schooling any longer. I need the bio to get accepted into the program so I am pretty much hell bent on taking bio next semester.
When did you attend N Trip? Did many of the people you started with not complete the program? Did many of them get the boot? I am most concerned about the drop out / failure rate. Once I begin the actual program I am hoping to quit working completely to concentrate on school so needless to say I am giving up alot for this.
I am not really nervous about the actual program though, I know it will be tough but my girlfriend is flipping out with nerves. She brought me an A&P book that she came across and told me to call her after I read the first 20 pages. I skimmed them looking for anything to freak me out and nothing did, but then again, maybe I am in denial, LOL.
Hi I am scheduled to begin at NCCC Fall 08 also. I hear it is very tough. Lots of reading of course. If you've taken your A&Ps already that will help the load. I know of some nurses who have their associates and go on for bachelors with tuition reimbursement from their employer.
I'm not planning on attending the program until Fall 09. I did wind up getting a spot in Human Bio this semester and am signed up for A&P I for fall 08. I'll knock out A&P I & II next academic year and will hopefully begin the actual nursing program in Fall 09 (at least that is the plan for now). Part of me is wondering if I should try to take Micro before going in to NS or possibly knock out the few other courses I will have to take before I start the program. Part of me is wondering if I should try to take just the core Nursing classes alone so I will not have to think about anything else. Then part of me wants to just get it over with. But for now, I'm sticking to my plan, knock out the A&P's next year and that is as far into the future as I will commit for now.

I FOUND IT EASIER TO TAKE MICRO BEFORE ANY NSG CLASSES. MICRO WAS NO WALK IN THE PARK.
I hope that if anyone has any updates to this thread, we can roll it along.... and add them ? it is right up my ally and part of my plan is just like these last comments have been ! I am thinking of just jumping in and getting started... and either NCCC, or ECC ???? any suggestions >
Niagara County Community College , or Erie Community College ?
