Trying to find out if anyone applied for the Nursing program at Malcolm X? What should I expect after applying?

Hi @JMTrumpet1, thanks. It's an email, and an attachment acceptance letter w/that email. But it is coming from a person at Malcolm X. I'm not sure if anyone else has gotten a response yet. I applied back in February, not sure if that makes a difference.

Thanks for letting me know! I think at least part of the reason you've already gotten your acceptance letter is because you are entering the Bridge program. Isn't there a class you have to take this summer for that? I'm afraid it's going to be a while for those of us entering the two year ADN program before we find out. I know from reading on this forum that they didn't notify folks last year until July. Ugh! I also applied in February and I've been on pins and needles waiting every since (like everybody else probably). Oh well, as St. Augustine said, "The reward of patience is patience." Personally, instead of patience I'd rather have patients. :)

LOL you are right! But yes, I have to take the summer bridge course to get to the third semester of RN program. So that may be the reason since classes start in less than a month from now. I had to sign up for it already. The ADN program doesn't start until August right? So you might be right on the wait until July. Sorry, hopefully they start sending a response to you guys soon as well.

Just looked on the Malcom X website in hopes of some sort of update and this was posted....This is getting ridiculous

The Fall 2017 A.A.S. Degree in Nursing application cycle is extended to July 21, 2017 at 11:59 p.m.

The Fall 2017 Practical Nursing application cycle is extended to July 21, 2017 at 11:59 p.m

Omg, this has got to be a joke. I don't think it's fair for them to have us wait until after July's deadline. It's ridiculous. How are we suppose to plan our personal life in 1-2wks.

Oh my god, I want to scream right now! This is crazy what about the people who put in applications in February like they asked us to?

I overheard there were not enough qualifying applicants & the date was extended to allow the summer BNA program to apply. They are basically pushing it as far back as they can to get the "cream of the crop". Once accepted, prepare yourself for last minute emails regarding mandatory meetings you have to attend. Our mandatory orientation was for 3 days first week of Aug. So if you work mornings, be sure you have at least 3 days back to back to take off last minute. They are mandatory and you do have to sign in every time. Once you got your acceptance letter, schedule your doctors appointment. Our medical check in for second year is due mid July (you will also be given these documents once accepted, but yours might not be due till late Aug). Once Orientation is complete, you still have to wait again till you are given a green light and your coded into the Nursing program on your CCC account. It's not until then will you be able to sign up for classes. It's all a waiting game, and first semester baby's you into the program. The classes fill up fast so you have to be on your P's & Q's if you want a certain class or clinical. If you need to complete other classes, first semester is the time to do it! I found first semester fairly easy as most of it is basic. However, we started the program with about 130 students, and began second semester with about 115 (less now after completing 2nd semester, some students didn't pass the final/ATI), so not everyone moves on. Second semester begins easy, but then you hit the ground running. Do not overwhelm yourself with complicated classes because finals and that "exit exam" can make or break you. Overall, don't worry too much about having to wait... Once you get accepted, that wait would become irreverent and you'll be running around trying to get uniform & books ready. If you need to take other classes, take them this summer! Micro, Bio 226 & 227. Trust me, get it out the way now, you'll thank me later. I honestly don't know why they don't just send your acceptance letter now & tell you what you need to prepare for first day. It's silly to have to wait if your name has been approved & stressful when you are given such a short time to get supplies and make arrangements. But good luck guys! 2nd semester was a roller coaster for me and I wish you guys nothing but the best! I hope to see you all in Aug!

Hi @Whermykeyz, so you're entering your second year of ADN program? I'm an LPN hoping to bridge into the program this fall. I have to take the bridge course in summer, hopefully that goes ok and I'm able to join you in the third semester of ADN program. But just wanted to ask you, what can you tell me about the program, besides that it's disorganized. I have a couple of my classmates that just graduated from the program this semester....but allot didn't make it through the third semester. Any advice you can give me going in?

If you have a best friend, I hope they are understanding that they will be replaced for some time. From my understanding, the summer bridge program is 2 semesters crammed into 2 months. I don't know if you will take an exit exam as well, but the upcoming semesters will require a few. 3rd semester you take OB & intermediate med-surg, which is a lot if you're just thrown in, so take the summer bridge program seriously. I inquired about taking the bridge program myself (I was afraid the 2 months off will leave me forgetful of fundamentals), but I don't qualify (I'm not an LPN). You will have to learn double the material and it gets frustrating when it comes to tests. If you have anxiety, please see your doctor before the semester. The exit exam sent me into a panic attack. The teachers are amazing and understanding! Rely on your peers a lot, but be careful about misinformation given out. Study! Study! Study! Make note cards, have study groups, exchange numbers with others, create group chats! There is a lot of information to read and not everyone is able to grasp it.

Message I received this morning after emailing the Dean:

We are reviewing current applications this week and will notify students about their acceptance status. Moving forward, we will look for new applicants weekly through July 21 and will send letters weekly to inform new applicants about their acceptance status. If you have already applied, we will be reviewing your application this week. You will hear from us no later than mid-week next week.

Thank you.

Well I guess at least now you know when to look for a response. Sorry you guys have to wait so long. Hope you all get an answer soon.

Funny, that's exactly what they told us last year after our due date got pushed back again & we still didn't find out till July. Hope she sticks to her word this time.
