Diagnose THIS! (kind of a RANT)

Published

I had strep throat dx Dec. 4 with my family Dr. Have taken my course of antibiotics, felt better for a day, and the sore throat came back. Woke up this AM feeling crappy still. I have been soooo tired, coughing, the sore throat thing, dizzy, no appetite, sinus congestion. I have had NO fever, nausea, aches, diarrhea...one day with a headache, but not ongoing.

Family dr has no appts available today, of course, but the young dr he recently brought in was available. OK, gotta have someone check this out. I go in and they have a new MA (I guess that's what she was, he doesn't have nurses). She took my blood pressure wrong, twice which gave a REALLY high reading, no way, I have never had BP that high. I had to help her the second time with the cuff to reposition and get it tight enough as it was FALLING down my arm. She was like, "Well, maybe you've been coughing a lot or it's just because you're sick." Umm, no, ya did it wrong babe! I just looked at her, smiled a bit and she said, "Since it's so high you should have the Dr. double check it." I told her I sure would.

Doc comes in, I tell him my symptoms, asks if I have drainage...tell him, no...proceeds with exam...when done he prescribes and antihistimine and a decongestant for the DRAINAGE I don't have! I have white pus patches on my tonsils still, even after the antibiotics. Yes, this could certainly be viral...I am thinking it might be mono, I have been burning the candle at both ends with school and family commitments.

I didn't mention to the dr what I thought it might be because the last time I did he told my family dr that he thought I didn't like him....(again, ) It is times like these I wish my family dr was less busy or that I had an NP instead!!!!

I've had my flu shot, BTW. This doesn't seem like flu to me, though. Oh, and he told me if I don't feel better in 10-14 days to give him a call :( Is he telling me this so he's covering his butt if it IS mono? What to do...I feel HORRIBLE!

(He did check my BP again...normal...I felt like I wanted to alert someone to the fact the MA needs some skills brush up, but I didn't want to piss anyone off!)

I think my DH is wondering the same thing since he is well! :chuckle

Thanks, I hope I feel better, too!

Why are you so worried about pizzing someone off. It's your health, your body, you pay insurance premiums and other monies.

Want to borrow my BBBs?

Thanks. LOL

The way I am feeling I was afraid I was going to come off WAY B*tchier than what I should, so I just kept my mouth shut...for now. I will mention something to my Dr next time I see him, which will probably be really soon, considering all my kids are now c/o sore throats!

I don't feel I can really communicate with this Dr, he gets his freakin' feelings hurt WAY too easily...he's really green, could use a lot more experience with bedside manner. Every time I have to see him I kinda feel like a guinea pig and have had to go back to my regular Dr to be re-evaluated. My Dr has apologized to me, told me to give him time...I told him I can't when it comes to my and my family's health. They try never to schedule my appts with the new Doc, but this time I had no choice. I had hoped that he had gained some experience since the last time, I wanted to give him that chance without meeting with an attitude from me.

With this new MA it just added insult to injury, and after having complained about the new Dr already to my Dr...it makes me feel like I will be viewed as a difficult patient! I'm really not, though! I know my Dr has already had a few talks with the new Dr, and not just about my complaints (he confided in me others had similar dealings with him). I don't have it in for the guy, just wish he'd do right by me and mine! I had hoped, I really had... :o

Well, it makes sense to calm down and look at the situation rationally rather than mouthing off. :)

But remember the squeaky wheel sometimes gets the grease.

Good luck and get well soon!

if you feel like crap after all this you are still not better despite antibx. sometimes with mono when they give antibx. you get a hell of a rash. it is sometimes a quick way to dx . mono.

i'd go with a nasty nasty sinus infection. as a matter of fact like someone said...be a squeaky wheel and at least ask for sinus films. sinus infections can be very hard to treat . take care of yourself.

Can you just call up and schedule yourself for some lab work? Do you think he'll order you a mono spot? My daughter was just diagnosed with it two weeks ago. See if you can simply get yourself a CBC and a mono spot. Can't hurt, eh? Hopefully with lab values right in his face, he can diagnose that.

Thanks EastCoast and Zee_RN.

Could be a sinus infection. I've had a lot of them in my life, never anything quite like this, but it could be.

I am planning on contacting my doc again and will ask him about doing some labs. It can't hurt and at least we'll know.

I would much rather find out this ISN'T mono...I have too much to do (Holidays and school starting back up shortly thereafter).

And yes, still feel like $h*t today.
