Hey guys sorry to rant here but, I have been miserable i really need some motivation please. I wasted 6 years of my life by going to school stopping going stopping etc. life came in the way money bills family.I had to basically support my family. I am now 28 and just about finishing up my pre reqs i have ap 165 and 166 which i plan on doing in this spring and summer and apply for the nursing program at a community college in my area. Is it to late for me to consider even doing this. I feel like i am too old and wasted my life. I have 3 kids and luckily i dont have to work while i am in school and My house is paid off. I just want someone to give me some word of wisdom and tell me how you guys did it. thank you please be nice and not judgmental Thank you In advance ( sorry about all the typos)

Hey there! Congratulations on your accomplishments so far! Nursing school is tough... even more tough when you have a family- but it is doable! About me real quick... I did my pre-reqs ages 25-27, ASN program 28-30, became a nurse at 30, completed my BSN ages 31-33. I did all this with 3 young kids, a wife, a mortgage, and everything else life has to throw at you. I had my 3 babies in pre-reqs, when I entered my ASN program I quit my job, was a stay at home Dad to my 3 babies, and went to nursing school nights and weekends. Any extra night off I had I waited table to make ends meat. IT WAS HARD... But my life now is fantastic. I have a super nursing job where I've been now for almost 5 years... Life is not stressful, I am happy, my family is great. The sacrifices were worth the reward. If you WANT to become a nurse- you should do it. I recommend you shadow some nurses to see what it's really like- but as I said, if you feel like it's something you would enjoy- go for it. Our lives seem similar, so if you have questions you can message me. I wish you luck!!

You are not too old! Some people go into nursing as a second career in the 40's and 50's with families. Go for it!
Thank you so much, you made me feel so much better. Your life sounds pretty much like mines. If you did it i know i can too. People like you keep me motivated and i am so eager to accomplish my dream of becoming a RN. Thanks xxx

You can do it! Doing the classes you have done w/ 3 kids is great. You've shown you can manage your time by doing that. It doesn't matter if it takes you a while to get there. Just keep chipping away at it a piece at a time and you will get there.
As the old question goes:
"How do you eat an elephant?
Answer: "One bite at a time."
Remember that and best of luck to you :-)
P.S. Having a house paid off at 28 is incredible. You should be proud of that.

I'll graduate in May with my BSN. I went back to school full time at 34 (total leap of faith) and will be graduating at 39 years old. I loved my cohort and getting feed off that youthful energy. The most important part of my journey was staying organized while being able to adapt. It's possible, so go for it :)

No..as long as you are still breathing you are not too late! Think of it this way, the time is going to pass a way so at the end of X number of years you can be in the same place, made significant progress and hopefully even be an RN BY that time frame. With that said you need to plan well to make it work with all your obligations. That may mean you need some help. You will need time to attend class, clinicall and study. You may need to hire someone twice a month to help you with cleaning. You may need to cook bulk meals and freeze them. You will need more help from your husband. I would also suggest small rewards for goals that you achieve to keep your motivation level high.
