Nurses General Nursing

I'll try not to make this too long. I recently started working at a new smaller hospital on their med surg floor. Prior to that I was an ER nurse for almost 3 years at a big level one trauma center. I learned a lot there in those 3 years. Well I was hired as a staff nurse at this new hospital and have been working on it for a little over a month now. I have caught on extremely fast and have been taking patients since the second day on the floor. The assistant nurse manager on days is leaving and I was encouraged to apply so I did. At first I was the only applicant now there are two others who do not work on our floor. I was feeling kind of good about it, but now I am worried. I know I can do the job hands down and I know that I can teach the other nurses a lot. They are not as confident as the nurses are at the hospital I came from, but they can be, a lot of them are really smart nurses.

Do you guys think I have any kind of advantage over these other applicants who have never worked on the floor. I am just really worried because it seems like I never win anything.

Rachel,

I know exactly how you feel. In my prior job I wanted to get promoted to a better position and I had the whole department applied for this position and it got me really depressed and it felt like a copetition. I got hired so I was happy...but I think you have a great chance! Keep us posted

Rachel,

Congratulations on getting the job!! You sound like superb management material!! That you are concerned to help the nurses become more confident really speaks volumes to me of your commitment to making a difference. A great manager is a gift from God!! The times I have had wonderful managers, made work joyful! I applaud you. Good luck in your new position, but I have a feeling you are not going to need it.

Obviously, they recognized your talent from the very beginning!
