Denver School of Nursing - October 2015 start date

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello, I applied for the october start date, 2015, at denver school of nursing. I wanted to start a thread for all the hopeful students for this start date. I thought it would be a good support system and ask questions about the school. A little bit about me, I have been an EMT for the last 3 years and I have volunteered my local fire department. I'm graduating this May with an Associated of Science in Biology, pretty much the requirements for the BSN programs with a GPA of 3.6. I really hope I get in, and good luck everyone.

Hi everyone! Has anybody who has been placed on the alternate list for October heard any news? Or does anyone have any info on when people might start hearing back?

Hi, I have not heard anything back from DSN yet, but I know my email said they have until mid August to respond for October start date.

I got accepted for the October 2015 start date, but I'm currently looking for housing. I'm from Pennsylvania and need to find a roommate in the same cohort (preferably). What is everyone else housing situation who also got accepted?

Email Rachel Pratt, she has a email list going for people in DSN looking for roommates. I know that there is one girl in October cohort looking for a roommate and housing and one from the July cohort. I'm in the October cohort as well, I'm very excited to get started!

Congrats kayleighkt. I got pulled from the alternate list and have a interview July 27th. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. Anyone have any tips for the interview? How was the HESI exam in the math area? I absolutely hate math and dreading it 😩

@crysallynn77, congrats!! The interview is not bad, they or whoever interviews you talks about the school and basically why you want to be a nurse and why did you choose DSN. They give you a tour of the school and you fill out some paperwork. The HESI math portion is factions and know your conversion as well. They give you a book to study from and make you do the practice questions.

That makes me feel better about the math, I was nervous statistics were on it. Did you study the four weeks or much longer? I'm not too worried about the other sections, maybe a little of anatomy but it should be a fresher.

The only sections that you take for DSN is the math, reading, grammar, and vocabulary. There is a critical thinking section which you can't really study for. Its more for nursing train of thought and such. You are not graded on it as it just goes into your file I assume. It wasn't to bad, I studied here and there for the test but really study the night before. Don't stress to much but study grammar sections from the book and memorizing conversations and factions.

@crystallynn77 The interview is easy! Jeff spoke most of the time, and gave me a tour. The only questions I got asked were: "Why I wanted to be a nurse/who were my influences in nursing?"- and Also, "Why/how did I find DSN and why this cohort?" I didn't have to take the HESI because I already have a B.S. Mathematics degree. I've taken the TEAS though and have been told that the tests are very similar. The math was middle school math on the test (just basic calculations and measurements- "easy stuff, not like algebra"). I'm sure you'll do fine! :-) Good luck with the exam!

...I'm the one girl in the October cohort.. lol

@kayleighkt, Haha oops, I was on that list but found a place in aurora. I didn't see a name similar to your username on the email. I haven't heard from anyone else who is looking for housing but I'm sure more and more will come up as we get closer to the start date. You should look up housing on Craigslist, Zillow rentals, and rent.com if you haven't already.

Hey everyone! I fly over from CA Monday for my interview on Tuesday, and test on Wednesday! I am so nervous!! Does anyone if you find out right away if you are in or if it takes a while? I just want to get in and move already. ;)

@nheiland, Hey congrats on getting an interview, basically you are pretty much in if you get an interview and pass the test. The test isn't hard, they will lend you a study guide plus there are some great apps to help study for it. The interview part is easy, basically they ask you why you want to be a nurse and why DSN. The test is not hard, study conversions and fractions, the reading and vocab sections are pretty straight forwards, study up on grammar and you will definitely pass. After the test, you will print out the paper and sign enrollment papers therefore saving you a spot and you are in!!! :) I can't wait to get started too!
