Post here and introduce yourself if you will be attending DSoN in the Fall of 08!!
Hi! My name is Amy and I will be starting the BSN program in Oct. I am from Southern California and will be moving to the Denver area with my boyfriend in Sept. I am definitely excited to meet new people and see a different part of the country. I think I would like to get into some type of cardiac or pediatric nursing but am still unsure. I would love to learn all about the area of Denver and the great spots for sightseeing, hiking, nightlife, etc.
I can't wait to meet y'all and am excited to be sharing this experience with you!
has everyone filled out their loan info? I made an appt in July to finish all the paperwork..........I swear it's like signing away your first born!
Yes, I applied for the Sallie Mae loan and didn't get approved, and also with co-signers with great credit, and again was-not approved. I am going to apply for "Astrive" student loan. Has anyone heard of it? I saw a commercial on tv and said what the heck. If I don't get approve, oh well, I'm starting this fall no matter what.
I am a financial aid advisor right now for a private college, it helps pay the bills while I attend nursing school. My employer primarily works with Sallie Mae and this summer they raised their credit critera substantially. I have students with credit in the 700's who are not getting approved. I would reccommend applying for Wells Fargo's health profession loans or with any other Student Loan lender that works with middle man credit.
Although, I would like to ask, does the Denver School of Nursing offer payment plans?

I am one of those students with a credit score way above 700 and so does my co-signer, that's why I was shocked to find out I didn't get approved. Anyways, thanks for your advice I will check out what Wells Fargo has and see what happens. And yes, DSON offers payment plans. I would rather do the payment plans so I'm not in debt after nursing school.
What nursing school are you attending? Good luck to you.

Hi Amy! I will also attend DSON this fall, but will be in the ADN program. Have you heard anything about dates for orientation, etc?
Anyways, welcome!
I'm from Orange County. At this point just looking for something affordable and close to the school. I'm bringing my truck with me but it seems like taking the light rail may be a good way to get to school. I will let you know what I find! :)I think it's normal to be both excited and nervous. Not only are we starting nursing school, we're moving away from our comfort zones. It makes me feel better knowing I won't be the only new one to the area though.
Hi Quang,
I will start DSON this fall. Have you found a place out here yet? Well I hope to see you there.

I am completing my pre-nursing pre-reqs at UCHSC, I only have three semesters left and have a previous BS and BA, I'm hoping to go to UCHSC's program in Spring of '10. My previous degrees are from CU Boulder and I am hoping my performance in UCHSC's pre-nursing program gives me a greater edge, if I don't get in, I will plan on attending DSN for their Baccalaureate program in January of 2010.

Hi June!
Nice to meet you!
At first, I applied for the ADN program and got accepted, then I changed mine mind and switched to the BSN Program because I realized that the tuitions are about the same for both programs. Now I'm on the waitlist #1 for the BSN program this Fall. They said I will hear a good news from the school soon. One thing that makes me nervous is the Salie mae loan because it is my only choice and I'm scared that I don't get approved even though I have good credit and co-signer. I have not found a place yet, maybe I'll find someone to share a room, so I can save some money... I hope to see you there too

Hi Quang,
Originally my plans were to go for the BSN program but I didn't have enough time to finish two required classes, therefore, I am going for the ADN.
So, have you moved out to CO? I think I read your post and it said you were from San Jose? You might want to look on Craigslist for roommates.
I applied for the Sallie Mae loan by myself and didn't get approved. I then applied with a co-signer and again didn't get approved. My co-signer and I, both, have excellent credit and own a home, but it's really hard these days because of the economy. After reading a few posts, I'm glad I didn't get the Sallie Mae loan because of the adjusted interest rates. Someone suggested Wells Fargo tuition plan or something like that.
Well, good luck.
How does the Well-fargo's health professional loan work while the DSON is only accepting Sallie Mae loan and cash? If there is another loan option, I would rather choose it over the sallie mae.
I can't decide to move to Denver yet since I'm still on the waitlist and don't know whether I will get approved for the sallie mae loan. If I get accepted, I only have 1 month to prepare everything since the program starts in Oct
June, Have you checked out the Well-fargo health loan yet? or other loans? I heard the orientation will start in 4 weeks before the program start, so probably in mid Sept

Hi Never2late1,
No, I never looked into the Wells Fargo loan or any other loans. I decided to make payments while in school.
Will you be attending this fall? I think if you decide on attending, everything needs to be turned in by Sept. 3rd unless you have already spoken with someone. Orientation is scheduled for Sept 25 8-12:30pm. Where will you be moving from?
I hope to you see you there.
