Denver School of Nursing (DSN) July 2015 Start

Published

I'm curious as to whether any other prospective July 2015 DSN students have heard back from admissions yet...

I'm still waiting on them to cash my check, but I was in touch with a counselor about polishing up my package recently, so I know at least some progress is being.

At any rate, I'm interested in DSN b/c Nursing school is too damn expensive in California, even w/ the GI Bill >.

edit: And I'd also like to live in a place like Denver for college. Best part is if I like it I can stay in Colorado and not have to wait 6 months (which is the minimum wait in Cali for new licenses apparently!) for the state to issue me a license after my NCLEX.

@agriggs, I applied for the October start date and got interview with DSN. Do you or anyone have any tips for the interview? I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you.

If you have the interview you are in! :) congrats! Just be yourself. Basically they just ask you why you want to be a nurse and stuff like that. They show you around the school and you may meet with financial aid for a few.

Congrats to all those who got in! I am headed into last week of Q1, you won't be disappointed with DSN. If any of you need to buy your q1 books I have some I can pass on for cheap!

@futurenurserebecca, I may have to take you up on that offer! In your experience with DSN is it better to rent your books or buy them with the school? I'm so excited to start at DSN in October!

Hello! I am a quarter 7 BSN student at DSN. (I graduate Friday, wahoo!)

I bought all of my books through DSN. It is included in your tuition, so if you're using federal or military financial aid it will be included. I always resold the books I know I won't use again online through Chegg - you'll get most of your money back that way.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask away!

Most of my class just included their books in their loan but I opted out and just buy mine. I think I'll save at least 1500 in the long run if not more and won't have to repay it later. Some books you may want to keep, some you can get rid of, just a matter of figuring that out as far as renting vs. Buying. Obviously renting you could save even more. Through the school is nice because they just give you all of them at the end of the previous courses and you're good to go. Buying/renting them you get an email with the book list and have to make sure you get them all in time, little more work but I think it's worth it. Just pm me if you have any other questions :)

Congrats! How exciting! :) :)

Today was my last day of quarter 1! Loving it so far. Any tips for pharm and foundations for next quarter?

Hi all! Congrats to those who have been accepted to DSN. I am finished with my AS in just two weeks! I would like to apply to DSN for the Jan 2016 start date. Do any of you know if each of the application processes are weighted equally? I don't know my exact GPA, but I didn't do as well as I had planned (some grades ended with C's). I had a baby (and a very hard pregnancy) during the process of earning my associates degree which is what caused my GPA to fall a bit. I'm hoping I can sort of explain that in my essay. I have minimal experience with patient care. I did not go for my CNA because I don't have the time or finances to do so (mother of 4, business owner/operator & student...) but I just started working 1 day a week as a caregiver at an assisted living facility. I have wanted to be a nurse for 14 years, but I really can't afford to apply if I don't have a chance at getting accepted. Sorry for the long post. Just looking to get some advice from others who have gone through the process. Thank you for reading :)

Hi all! Any current students/graduates who have any advice on outside private loans? From what I am understanding, it is difficult to find private loans that can be used at DSN. I start July 6th, and currently will be paying out of pocket for the portion that fed loads don't cover for the first 3 quarters. (I was denied a private loan through the lender DSN provides.) If anyone had any leads on other lenders, that would be greatly appreciated!
