Hi all! I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for those hoping to get into the April 2016 BSN cohort at DSN. It would also be nice to hear from past/current students on any questions that may pop up here.
Just yesterday I received an email inviting me to proceed with an interview. I'm beyond excited! From other threads I've read, it seems that if you are invited for an interview, you are basically in (as long as you pass the exam, background check, etc.)
I've wanted this for so long, I can hardly believe that it's happening! I hope to connect with more prospective and eventual students soon! Take care! :)
Hi HeatherJordan,
My interview is on February 26th and I fly into Denver that morning :/ My fiancee and I are currently scrambling to find a decent apartment for good price. We're hoping to potentially have a roommate that might also be a nursing student. I think it would be great for carpooling and saving on rent. We're coming from the San Jose area. What about you?

I am applying for the Oct start date at DSN. I recently bought a home here & let me tell you , it is not cheap to live here ! Hopefully once the program starts, I can help some people & take in room mates ! Good luck hunting !
mscarmen74 - on my off time I run an AHA training site teaching BLS, ACLS, and PALS. This has given me an opportunity over the past 5 years to speak to students of all nursing schools every year. What I can tell you is the general feedback is that all of the schools have their share of issues, especially with the clinical rotations, which is centrally run like a lottery system and each school is treated the same, which can create issues for students who are working through school. DSON itself has made some strong improvements over the years and for the most part, students seem to be happier and happier with each graduating class. Not to say that there aren't still some issues and some students that aren't happy, but generally speaking, DSON has gone from being unaccredited school with a lot of chaos, to a much more respected and fully accredited nursing school. I've seen a major change in the level of satisfaction over the past 3 to 4 years with students that have graduated DSON, hence, I've decided to go to this program.
I'm sure I'll be able to see that not everything is glowing once I start the program, but overall I feel comfortable spending my time and money at DSON. I hope that helps. Good luck on your decision and in school wherever you decide to go!
Oh, don't worry about it. I kind of figured that was you, but didn't want to seem like a creep. Lol. You finished the HESI so fast! I thought I was going to be first! Haha. I finished about 7 min after you. It wasn't bad. I definitely stressed about it more than I should have. We shall see each other again in about 13 weeks!!! :)
Hi JTelford
I would love to rent a room from you, but unfortunately, I come as a package deal. My fiancee and I have been apartment searching just outside of Denver and have found some potential leads. Quite honestly, anything and everything in Colorado is cheaper than in California lol. The price difference is tremendous!! If you have any apartment recommendations, I would greatly appreciate some suggestions :)
Hi masterswim21
Just to let you know, if you have an interview, the college has pretty much said yes, pending your ability to fund your education. The interview process is more of an interview for you, they show you around campus, ask you a few simple questions about why you want to be a nurse and why at this time. Then they show you the simulation lab down the street. I live in the Sacramento region, and I'm thinking about moving out there mid March. The orientation will be around March 24 or 25 and is in the morning for about 5 hours. I've been looking at either taking the light rail or buying a monthly pass for a garage (maybe splitting it with another student). For people from California, everything seemed very cheap, except housing. You can find me on Facebook, my name on here is the same on there.
Hello :)
I'm an applicant for the BSN April start date now, originally I was applying for summer but they asked if I wanted to change to April! Im very excited/ nervous for my interview on the 24th. If all goes well (fingers crossed) I'll be moving right after my current quarter is over here in washington. Any advice about the HESI test and the interview is greatly appreciated!
Dont worry about the interview. it's more of a mini orientation and introduction. If you got an interview, you got in. The Hesi exam I just studied for about 1-2 hours on the chapters of the HESI guide they gave me and I got 96%. So prepare the way they tell you to and you'll be just fine. It was a lot longer test than I thought it would be. Several hours in all. You'll do fine. See you in April!!

Hello,
I am planning on applying for the Oct. 2016 BSN cohort. I am a little reluctant based off the negative feedback of former and current students. How do you feel about it?
