Denver School of Nursing (DSN) April 2016

Published

Hi all! I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for those hoping to get into the April 2016 BSN cohort at DSN. It would also be nice to hear from past/current students on any questions that may pop up here.

Just yesterday I received an email inviting me to proceed with an interview. I'm beyond excited! From other threads I've read, it seems that if you are invited for an interview, you are basically in (as long as you pass the exam, background check, etc.)

I've wanted this for so long, I can hardly believe that it's happening! I hope to connect with more prospective and eventual students soon! Take care! :)

Hi Heather,

I tried finding you on Facebook and couldn't find you. Maybe you can look me up (Liz Schurz). I'm excited as our time for school draws closer and closer. I would love to connect with you via Facebook to see how you're preparing for the program.

Congratulations!! You are correct that if you are asked to come in for an interview that you have been "accepted" to the BSN program, BUT you have to pass the entrance exam first! Once you pass that, then you are officially accepted to DSN. I have seen on this website (as well as others) various negative comments about the Denver School of Nursing, and i am here to assure you that its not only an accredited school BUT a great school to attend in order to obtain your BSN, and a very smart choice on your part. One school is no harder than another, or any better. Nursing school is hard! DSN is a tough school, that takes no bull ****. DSN doesn't only provide you with the education required to obtain your BSN, but with the personal strength needed to obtain the confidence required by a nurse. You need to be focused when you begin your nursing school journey, and limit your distractions. Don't worry about what others are doing or saying, but listen to your instructors and never give up! All nursing schools must go through the same process when it comes to obtaining clinical sites for their students. One school does NOT have better clinical sites than another. What you should remember in the future is, you are the face of your school when at a clinical site. If you have a bad attitude, bad work ethic, and/or are unable to recognize the great opportunity you are getting there (no matter how you feel about the actual clinical site), that clinical site will then associate their opinion of you as a nursing student with their opinion of DSN as a whole. That being said, you may get a clinical site that had a bad experience with other DSN students which can come across in their attitude towards you. SHAKE IT OFF AND CHANGE THEIR PERCEPTION!!! Show them the "real" face of DSN! Also, do NOT listen to the negativity surrounding RN employment after graduation, even if you have no experience at all. DSN has an ACP program which allows students to gain employment at a hospital while they are still in school. This allows students to form relationships with other healthcare professionals that can be a great reference and resource, as well as a relationship with the hospital itself. DSN also has the best/coolest pre/post graduate advisor (Steve Wright) that will help you construct a professional resume prior to graduation, as well as provide any other help you may need in gaining employment. THERE ARE A MILLION RN JOBS IN COLORADO FOR NEW GRADS!!! You just can't be too picky! We all must start somewhere! My point in all of this is, don't listen to any of the negativity out there surrounding nursing school or new graduate employment! Rather, stay positive and focused on what needs to be done to fulfill your dream of becoming a nurse because I know from experience, YOU WONT REGRET IT!!!

I assumed that bad reviews were just people complaining. People who are having a good time and putting the work in don't really go on the Internet to talk about it! When I read some of those reviews that how I saw it.

I just finished my interview on the 24th if your still looking for a room mate shoot me an email! [email protected]

I found an interesting article aboit DSN , may be helpful to someoneStydying at Denver School of Nursing — Main Opportunities

Hi there! I am a potential nursing student to DSN and hoping to find out a little bit more about the school from recent/current students. I just received my email about getting an interview at the end of Oct and hoping to start in January! I was wondering how most students finance DSN and what advice you can give me about the school. Any information helps!!!!!!
