Denver College of Nursing July 2021

Published

Hi! I'm looking to see if anyone is applying to DCN for the July 2021 start!

Awww no. I'm sorry. Don't give up you guys. If anything apply for the ADN program and bridge into the BSN. I've had lots of doubts but I'm excited to get back in. Never give up.

I'm so sorry for everyone who didn't get in, keep on trying!!

I got the acceptance email and am so excited! I wasn't expecting this today!

I got my acceptance letter!

Don't stop trying if you didn't get accepted!

For those who got accepted- what did your personal statements look like? In my past two times applying, I discussed personal life experiences that led me to want to be a nurse. Now I’m trying to focus more on my goals as a nurse & my professional work experience

This time around my personal statement was a bit different because I had to address why I got dismissed and how I will avoid that happening again. what I did to improve my self and how I will succeed along with my work experience,  volunteer and my goals. It was hard to fit it all into one page. But I changed my margins a little and that helped. For my first one I wrote about what made me passionate about nursing and why and went on to talk about the same things work experience, volunteering,  and goals.

I felt like the personal statement was SO hard for me because I've been in healthcare for 12 years, CNA for 2 and LPN for 10years. That was hard to fit into one page.

I touched on my experience at one of my favorite jobs and what I did there that helped me grow as a person and nurse. I even included an example of when I questioned a Harvard trained Dr and how I had to reevaluate my approach.

Have a lot of people proof read it! My two best friends were the ones who helped me edit! One is interviewing for med schools and one is a paralegal. My mom also helped and she's an RN but had previously worked in finance. I had already started thinking of how I was going to edit it if I didn't get accepted and asked an NP I work with and was going to reach out to a Dr I used to work with to help proof read it.

It took me three times of applying. The first two times I focused more on why I wanted to be a nurse and past experiences that I thought would help me be a nurse. This time I focused mainly on work experience and how that will directly relate to nursing.

I also had a lot of people edit it.

I really think what made the difference this time was having relevant work experience, before I only had relevant volunteer experience. But it’s so hard to know what they’re really looking for

Hey guys! Has anyone had their interview yet?? Mine is on Tuesday!

Mine is on April 5th!

I'd love to hear how yours goes!!

AKling how did it go?

Did they talk about our schedule at all?!?

Yeah! It went really really well! It’s exactly what everyone has been saying. They went over the class schedule and clinicals along with some other stuff!

Good luck for yours! Hopefully we will get to meet in person for the first quarter!
