Hi, Anyone out there applying to the Delaware Tech nursing program this spring or fall? or anyone currently in the nursing program already? What are/were your total points?
I am just about finished all the prerequisites and plan to apply in the fall 2017. Currently I have accumulated 10 points but I haven't taken the NLN yet. Just trying to figure out what I need to score on the NLN in order to get into the program.
Hi everyone,
Has anyone taken the HLH course in the past semesters? If so, how was it?
Also, has anyone heard anything new? I accidentally wrote down the wrong email in the meeting, but I called to have it corrected. Just thought i should check in to make sure I didn't miss anything :) I am just super excited haha
I am currently taking the HLH (full semester). I understand from a A&P 2 classmate that they added 1 HLH 8 week course in the second block of the semester for those who still need to take it. She went to the meeting and as of this past Tues, got a spot in the class and just has to do the clinical portion at night bc of it conflicting with her daytime schedule. I would email your advisor and inquire about securing a seat in the class. As far as the course itself, it's easy - just common sense. Also, the instructor said they only used to do the shorter version but students complained it was too much info in a short time so they created the full term class that I'm in. I feel the flow drags somewhat, but then again I used to have a CNA license years ago so a lot of it is familiar.
I am currently taking the HLH Class in the 16 week block and I agree with Got2B that it kind of drags during lecture. Apparently this semester is the only one that they are doing the full semester for HLH and will go back to doing the 8 week course in the Spring.
I don't find it that difficult but I'm also an EMT so I have somewhat of an advantage to some of the material.
Hello! I realize that you are probably already in the program. Did you end up doing the accelerated program? I just applied Aug. 15th for the January start. I also have 15/16 points. I am wondering if the summer workload would be too much for a mother with school age kids home next summer? I appreciate any information. Thanks so much!

Hi Barbara!
I will be starting my last semester next week! There are a lot, at least 70%, of my classmates that have children. A lot of the people I know who got accepted in the accelerated program had 15 or 16 points. So fingers crossed! :) ! Either way, I’m sure it is safe to say that you got accepted into the traditional program. From what I heard the accelerated accepts about 16 students.
The program has also changed a lot the past few months. We used to have 1 nursing course for 7 weeks, then switch to the next nursing course the last 7 weeks. I believe now they have the students take 2 nursing courses at one time, which is very stressful.
I believe you can do it! Your kids are school aged so they should be able to understand that you may need time alone to study for a few hours out the week:)
monday and tuesday are the usual clinical days. You can pick Morning (6:30 AM to around 2 PM) or evening (~2 PM to 9ish).
I, however, am in the traditional 2 year program at Stanton. I do not have any kids, but I admire and praise the students who do. I honestly could not see myself going year round because it is a lot of studying and a lot of work and I look forward to that summer off. But, a lot of the moms mentioned that they would do some studying while their children were doing their own school work. I believe it comes down to balancing your family schedule with your school work! Once you get the hang of it during your first nursing class, then it will be smooth sailing.
If you have anymore questions, please feel free to ask.
Congratulations on this being your final semester! I am sure you have worked hard to get to this point. I do have a question for you. When I look ahead to NUR 170, it says that the class meets M-F 8:30-11:30, are these hours just lecture or hours and clinic combined? As you can tell, I am a planner. I like to know what to expect, lol! I appreciate you sharing your knowledge!

The first 1-2 months will be your lecture, M-F from 8:30 to 11:30. Some days you will switch between lecture and labs to learn skills.
After that, every Monday and Tuesday will be JUST clinical. So those two days depends on whether or not your morning clinical or evening clinical. Then Wednesday through Friday it will be your normal lecture times.
