Relocating to Delaware, Any suggestions?

Hello,

I am a nurse with 1 year experience working on a step-down ICU. I am moving up north in July/August to either the Philadelphia, PA or Wilmington, DE area. I am very unfamiliar with these areas and doing research is quite overwhelming. I am interested in getting a job in the ICU area, as a nurse with only a year under my belt I know it will be quite challenging. Surgical and Trauma are the areas I am most interested in. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on good hospitals for that in those areas or any advice on what hiring is like in those job specialties there. Any insight would be most appreciated!!

There are many good hospitals in these areas but of course Phila being a larger city has more hospitals than Wilmington area. Not sure what is available to a fairly new grad but they all require a online application so hopefully there is something on your resume that will pop out at them. What I should let you know is most hospitals in this area requires a BSN so hopefully you have that in place. Good luck.

I l have lived in DE for the past 12 yrs but have never worked in DE. I prefer to do travel nursing. Christiana is the largest hospital in DE and if I remember correctly it is a magnet hospital. AI Dupont is also another hospital and I have heard good things about it. Just about all of the nurses I know that have relocated to DE still commute to their jobs in PA. Some complain about the commute and traffic headache but find it hard to give up the pay and seniority from their jobs.

Hi! DE only has 1 major hospital with other branches. If I were you I would work in Philadelphia area (plenty) of hospitals and opportunity. Like the previous post...traveling can be a pain there is a lot of traffic but it is a straight ride. I personally would not want to travel but I wouldn't want to live in Philadelphia either. I know someone that got a call back within a week from Christiana hospital. They scheduled a phone interview for a later time. Then was called in for a in-person interview and then received a voice message that there was another candidate that was more qualified. Most jobs or should I say hospitals don't even bother calling.
