Anyone applying to Delaware County Community College's Fall 2012 Nursing Program? I am and I am also scheduled to take the TEAS in a few weeks. What did you think of the TEAS exam? I took the prep class and found it somewhat helpful in terms of focusing my studying. Anyone have to take the TEAS more than once to get the score they wanted? Share your scores if you don't mind and If you reading this and you are already in the program what scores did you get on the TEAS and how do you like the program so far?
Yes! Their program is very intense, and they are not very lenient at all. Although I really did love the actual school and the professors. After I went thru all of that, I would have much rather started at a community college to receive my RN and then perused my BSN. It is a much smarter and cheaper option.
Hi! I am in the same boat waiting to hear from DCCC. I really hope that we do find out in December. I am trying to get a seat in the day program in West Chester. Which program did you apply for? I am going nuts waiting to hear. Just paid my tuition for my pre reqs and books. Fingers crossed.
So, what's the word for everyone? I got into the evening/weekend program at Marple so I'm very psyched. Next step is to go the college planning session in a few weeks. Of course they have it scheduled for a Wednesday night when I have an A&P lab so I had to call and reschedule for the middle of the day. I'd rather take a few hours of sick time then to send someone else for me to make any arrangements.
I'm still keeping my options open with Neumann as well - I'm meeting with Sister Jude tonight. lol
Congrats!
After speaking with the program advisor at Neumann I'm quite convinced DCCC is the way to go. I'd need to take 3 science courses before I could I even begin the nursing courses there so I wouldn't graduate until 2016! So even with the extra year at Jefferson I'd be more likely to graduate in 2015. Way more bang for my buck (to say nothing of the excellent program at Jefferson as well as their hiring rates for graduates).
I'll take one year of private college tuition over 4!
I got into the Marple day program, planning session is 3/5 @ 12:30. Letter said it'll be 4 hours, but that seems a bit much! Anyone else doing the day program? I'm shooting for section 3, as I've heard that's the one that works best with kid's school schedules!
nsabby, I'm with you on the less time with private school tuition! Since I know I want to go to Jeff for MSN (Jeff and Penn are the only two with neonatal NP programs), I'm going to be saving every penny I can while at DCCC.
I graduated from the eve/weekend nursing program at DCCC a few years ago and can tell you that it is a first-rate program with generally excellent instructors and a terrific value for money. My associates degree probably cost less than $6k (I did not have many prereqs since I alread had a bachelor's and master's degree) but even taking the added courses, the school is a real bargain.I got into the evening/wknd at Chester County. :-) I thought about Neumann too, and drexel... but they are way too expensive and I know I can get it cheaper after I get my ASN. Im going to the info session on wed night too!
You are also correct that you can get your BSN far less expensively after getting your ADN. DCCC has a matriculation agt with West Chester and the RN-BSN pgm there will run just under $10k. Since the WCU program is only partly on-line, I elected to go through the Academic Outreach program at Ohio University. This is a fully accredited pgm, completely on-line and will cost me just under $7k. I was exempted from a lot of courses because of my prior degrees but you could take any missing courses except for the junior level English comp requirement at DCCC, so your cost will still be far less than Neumann or Drexel. There are a actually quite a few fully accredited, inexpensive on-line prgms out there besides Ohio: UT-Arlington, Univer of Wyoming, SUNY-Delphi, Thomas Edison (NJ), Ft Hayes St (KS) to name a few. Temple also has an on-line RN-BSN pgm but it's fairly costly - and both Drexel and PSU also have ridiculously expensive on-line programs.
Good luck to all of you planning on attending DCCC. Just be aware that your social life will need to be put on hold for a couple of years. More importantly, be sure that nursing is what you want to do because you are likely to face a very tough job market upon graduation.

That's also a reason that I haven't taken it ... though what do you have to lose. If you get a lower score the second time around, it's not like they average out all your scores thus making it a lower overall score for you.
That stinks about Neumann! I was just talking to a friend who's in the nursing program and while I may be stating the obvious, it sounds REALLY intense.
