Hello Everyone!

I just had to take a minute and tell you all about my weekend...well not the whole weekend...just my class that meets for 6 hours on Saturday. Ugghh...I'm embarrased, peeved, and amused all at the same time! This was a typical case of Murphy's Law!

OK...to fully understand, I 'm going to back track a little to last Tuesday, the first day of my CNA class. We meet for 3 hours on Tuesdays and 6 hours on Saturdays. Anyway, last week I showed up for class just fine...everything's going great, the teacher starts to go over the syllabus and handouts etc...all of the sudden (15-20 minutes into class) people start coming in...about 8 people showed up late. Well before we were dismissed our teacher gave us a lecture about the punctuality and how we are going to be entering into the professional work force and we can't be late, our employers are depending on us to arrive on time...She went on to say "I don't want to hear you guys coming in saying Ms. Brown, Ms Brown, I'm sorry I was late...but I had a flat tire again..." blah, blah, blah. Anyway, I pretty much ignored this 'cause I'm usually a punctual person I've been a part of the workforce for quite sometime now, and I understand you need to be on time. OK...so no big deal...

Well then comes Saturday...everything's great! I get up, take my shower, eat a bit of breakfast, pack a small lunch and I even have enough time to stop by our local gas station for a large cup of coffee! I mean, It's a six hour class...I'm gonna need something! :D OK...I've got my caffeine, everything's great and I continue on my merry way to school...All of the sudden...wub, wub, wub...You guessed it! I got a flat! Of all the dumb@ss rotten luck! OK...tire get's changed and I continue on my way to class and stroll in 15 minutes late with a steaming hot cup of coffee in my hand! Well of course there are not seat available close to the door so I have to further disrupt the class and go to the front of the class and cross all the way over to the other side to take my seat.

Well, anyway, at the break I walked up to the teacher and explained..."Ms. Brown...you know how you didn't want students coming in saying I'm so sorry I'm late but I got a flat?...Well...um...I'm so sorry I'm late, but I REALLY DID get a flat this morning on my way to class!" I'm not sure if she actually believed me but I just felt so stupid! OK...I can deal with this...it's situations like this that are out of your hands and you just have to deal with them...no biggie...I know I'm a punctual person and she will too when I'm on time the rest of the semester...no problem, right?

Well...after class I had some issues I wanted to discuss with her from the last class (which she had apparently already addressed in the first 15 minutes I missed that morning). Now keep in mind there are just 3 people in the room now...myself, the teacher and one other student. Anyway, I approach the teacher with my question and she tells me what I need to know then proceeds to lecture me that I am responsible for all material that I miss if I'm late to class...this is an example of why you're supposed to be on time, etc...

Well, remember that third student?...It's at this time she decides to interject..."yeah, 'cause if you're late, I'm gonna have to cover your patients some day!" OK...I can take unnecessary lectures from my teacher, but from another student who has no business involving herself in a situation she knows nothing about? I don't think so! I was so ticked!!! I wish I had told her to mind her own business and last time I checked, I was having a two-party conversation with the teacher. But of course I bit my tongue! Why is it that people feel the need to get involved with other people's business? AAARRrrrrggggg!!!!

Anyway, I'm sorry...I just had to vent...it seems silly now after having typed it all out...but oh well...thanks for listening...or reading actually!

My first class is today...after reading this, I think I will leave extra early!! (And I only live 3 minutes from the school!)

Sounds like my kind of luck!

Bean,

You will find that anywhere. My class (fortuneately) isn't like that and there are 36 of us. But I can tell you that at the hospital that I work at there are ALLOT of people that just seem to think that they need to be in everyone else's business (especially one little clique). Just ignore them and they will move on to someone else. Be careful what you say to anyone about anything personal in your life and you will be fine.

Thanks for the tip essarge! It just amazes me that she would actually have the nerve to pipe in her 2 cents on a conversation between the teacher and a student! Utterly amazing!

Hi Bean,

Were we seperated at birth? Stuff like that always happens to me. I remember sometime this past summer reading a message from a student nurse that was late to her first day of clinicals because she slept in and it was the very first time anything like that had ever happened to her. Stuff like that always happens to the best intentioned people who are always punctual.

Don't sweat it. I'm sure you'll do fine the rest of the semester. SH-T happens!

Once you apologized to the instructor, did she seem like she believed you?

I'm surprised you only missed 15 minutes. I would have no idea what to do if my tire went on me, I'd have missed most of the day!

If it's any consolation, I'm betting she will keep popping off, and eventually it will be to the WRONG person.

Funny, that comment makes her sounds like she's about 8 years old and wants to be the teacher's pet.

Hahahah...I lucked out and got my flat near a bus service station so I guess my luck wasn't all bad! :D I very nice man helped me change my tire! :D I could have done it myself...it just would have taken a LOT longer! ;)

Oh...and I'm not sure if she believed me or not...I hope so...but if she did, why did she lecture me so many times? Oh well!

Well good luck to the both of us and all the others here who have notoriously bad luck! :D May we all be on time and save all the dumb luck instances for our off days!
