I hate this CNO. I'm currently trying to apply for registration in Ontario as an RN registered elsewhere in the country but the College just seem so slow processing the applications or should I say they need to streamline their process. I know they have the most applications to deal with in all provinces but come on that's not an excuse.
Called them 5 days ago because I haven't been charged in my Credit card although I believed the last of the requirements they needed was received 2 weeks ago. I did send everything by Registered mail plus the Cust Rep confirmed it. She said the problem was my papers was "misfiled", assured me that she'll rectify it and she'll charge my credit card. Fine everything's moving forward now.
fast forward this morning. I called again to asked if they can give me an application number or a confirmation number that they are moving forward with my application. Cust Rep told me, "oh it was misfiled but was noted 5 days ago and...". 5 days after and still nothing happened to my files. I JUST WANNA GO BALLISTIC after hearing that. I did hung up. and called them after gathring myself telling the line got cut. i don't know how long would it take them to put it in the correct files never mind the whole processing of my application. Honestly I thought it would only take a month, max.
I'm just frustrated...

As Jan and yourself have both pointed out, you were educated overseas. As such, every College of Nursing in Canada will always evaluate your education since you are an IEN.
You were lucky to get to practice as an RPN in Ontario.
Every time you move to another province it takes time and money.
I was educated in Alberta, moved to BC. It took nearly four months for them to get around to giving me a practice permit.
You aren't being singled out. You are being treated like every other nurse who moves.
hi Fiona,
Here's what I read from the CNO website..Generally, nurses living elsewhere in Canada who can provide proof of current registration and recent safe practice as a Registered Nurse... in another Canadian province or territory are eligible to register in Ontario without undergoing additional training, experience, testing or assessment. This applies to all nurses currently registered elsewhere in Canada, regardless of where they received their nursing education.
I feel and not trying to say I was singled out on my OP. And honestly, I wasn't expecting it to be fast but hey it was CNO Cust Reps twice told me it will only take 4 weeks. They're the one who set the bar.
After my initial post and the responses, I realized the application will really take some time as I initially anticipated and not 4 weeks.
PS. Fiona, why do you say I'm "lucky to get to practice as an RPN in Ontario"?
yah...i just emailed them regarding the the forms for the employer...hope everything turns out right...thanks :)

well...yah i think so...if you have undergone some procedures in registering as a nurse in malaysia or if you took the malaysian nursing licensure exam...it's still better to call CNO to confirm...
Verification form for employer is not included in my package. do you have this type of form?
i didn't receive yet the form for the employer..but some nurse applicant received it together with their assessment package...maybe CNO has different procedures in assessing us...according to one colleague of ours it will be sent later, maybe after 2 months...:)
