Hi,

I just got my acceptance letter for Daytona State (formerly DBCC) for January YEA!! This was my second time applying, I am so thankful I got in and so excited to get started.

So, is anyone else out there starting in January in Daytona?

I am in my first semester and it is going good. They are starting a new curriculum that is more community orientated. Also there is a section on here for Daytona State under region then Florida, but here is the link https://allnurses.com/forums/f141/anyone-daytona-beach-community-college-313602-37.html#post3213159

GOOD LUCK!

Hi! I'm another January starter. I've been going crazy trying to figure out if days or nights are better for me and my family. We have decided on nights. I'm going to hand deliver my letter next week. (I don't trust the mail system for this paperwork!) I'm so excited too! I've been wanting to do this for years. I know its going to be a lot of work but so worth it.

I just dropped off my form at school stating I wanted day classes in Daytona. I hope I get them.

Where did you all get your BLS certification? How long was the class and how much was it?

Where do you live?

I did my bls certification at the school, it took about three hours and it was $40.00. Pretty good class they really didn't drag it along....

If I were you I would just start doing my physical and shots and stuff so that it does not all fall on you at one time, because money sure is tight this first semester!

Are you doing days or nights?

I live in Daytona, beach side.

Thanks for the info on BLS class, I will contact DS tomorrow and see when the next class is. Three hours does not sound bad at all, I was worried it was a multi day thing.

I am already getting started on the rest of the stuff, sending out for criminal check, etc. I had my annual physical scheduled for nxt month anyway so that works out. Did you do the Hep B vaccine? It says you can opt out of it but I don't see why I would, other than the $150 cost.

I want to do days in Daytona, I just droped my acceptance/preferance sheet off today. Are you days or nights? Did you get your first choice when you started?

Thanks for the info!

I got my first choice which was Daytona and I have Ms. Lear for both lecture and clinical and it is really nice. she told me next semester she is going to start clinicals at 8 which would have been great this semester. I will ask her tomorrow when they are posting classes.

I got the hep b shot, they really recommend it.

I'll jump in here. Got my acceptance letter last week and am on my way over to Daytona to drop off my letter and get my physical. I think I am going to try to get into nights to leave a bit more time for work during the day. It's going to be rough but worth it I'm sure. This is a second degree for me and I take school much more seriously this time now so I think all will go well.

So I see that your schedule is up for the spring. One instructor is Very nice and she really loves to teach and help everyone and she is awesome for teaching math skills that are needed. The code for this class is NUR1010

YOu have to take two seperate classes now.

The next teacher I had was very good. I really got along with her and enjoyed her class. She is very honest. The code for this class is nur1020

Good luck you guys! It is a lot of work, but study SMART!

Hey mbwants2banRN

I am hoping for Daytona Days, I really hope I get it. I am a little confused though, do we get some choice in our instructors or are we assigned? Do they assign us days/nights/campus and then we pick classes from there?

Thanks for pointing me to the other Daytona State thread, I read it with great interest. We are all going through this same stuff you were a few months back. Very interesting!

Thanks

When you go to orientation they will give you a folder that says on the top which campus you got, then you sit through and hour or so of talking, take a tour and then they tell you to go home and register. DO NOT DO THIS! GO STRAIGHT TO THE REGISTRATION OFFICE!

There are always problems with registration and you should do it while you are there. You can write down what instructors you want and the time for the campus that you are hoping for as well as the clinical instructor. That way when you go to registration you know what you want and don't have to waste time on the computer.

You guys have a new ciriculumm starting next semester so you will have to get all your books new!

GOOD LUCK!

Wow, thanks so much for the information on registration, I will definitely do it that way. That is the kind of thing that drives me crazy, when things dont work they way they tell you the will!

Just got back from the beach watching the shuttle launch with my wife and daughter, very cool. Hope you got to see it.

Thanks Again!

Hey, what about the head start/jump start thing you mentioned in your other thread, did you find out about it at orientation?
